Description
"All night long their nets they threw
To the stars in the twinkling foam ~
Then down from the skies came the wooden shoe,
Bringing the fishermen home;
'Twas all so pretty a sail it seemed
As if it could not be,
And some folks thought 'twas a dream they'd dreamed
Of sailing that beautiful sea ~
But I shall name you the fishermen three:
Wynken,Blynken,and Nod."
Eugene Field
Hi everyone.It's Friday!Yay!
This is a shot I took last Monday, which was Labor Day here in the states.Don't ask me what's the meaning behind this holiday, lol,I frankly have no idea! But what it does is create a three-day weekend on the last one in August and as such,it signifies to most people the 'official' end of the summer.
I went out late in the day in the hopes of maybe getting a decent sunset. There are no decent sunsets on the south shore of Long Island because it is soooo flat and populated, that the sun is almost invariably setting behing some ugly building or something. So I travelled to Sea Cliff which is on the North Shore.(Lol,what we call cliffs here would be a joke to most of you!)
Any way,let me tell you,I suffered for my art! While I was waiting for the sunset,(which turned out to be nothing to write home about, lol,of course!),I was quite literally devoured by gazillions of tiny disgusting midges. You might call them 'no-see-ums',but there were so many crawling on my hands, etc, you could certainly see 'em!!!Ewwwwww!(Shudder!)I itch now just thinking about it!
So here were these three guys, obviously totally oblivious to the apparent buffet they were offering to these despicable creatures.I guess a few beers and nothing bothers you!
And since the sunset was a total washout I figured I'd snap a few shots of them instead.I think it came out kind of nice.
Thank you for looking and putting up with my silly, self-indulgent babble.I really appreciate it!And as always, your comments and opinions mean soooo much!
Hope y'all have a fabulous weekend!
See ya!!!
Marlene
PS-I asked for a better title than 'Wynken,Blynken and Nod' and The ever witty PhotoSmith supplied me with this alternative.I think it's much better! Thanks Steve!

This with your commentary makes for a delightful view.My thought is to darken the guy on the far right to silouette a match for all three and maybe even try a crop of the lone rod at left... Picky huh.. They seem so patient and like nothing matters. The image also gives a good imagination of persistence in waiting for a nibble.

Now we know why fish is so very expensive :-) - I really like your image - imaginative and skillfully captured and composed - not to mention the blood you sacrificed :-) Superbly done Marlene!

love this, Marlene!!! the guys look great in silhouette like that, and the contrast between the top and bottom...light and dark is very nice. Labor Day? Hell...i work it every year! Meaningless holiday to me. :( What are midges/?? whatever they are, i have the heebie geebies after reading your commentary! LOL! i don't like things crawling on me and suckin' the blood out of me! :)

The New and Improved Title fits this picture perfectly :) They seem to have a very relaxed attitude to fishing - they're there to fish, not to catch fish. Those darn tiny bloodsuckers can be incredibly annoying, I guess your trigger finger was quite literally itching when you shot this one :)

Give a man a fish and you will feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and he will spend all day by the lake drinking beer :D

LOL what a cool shot Marlene! I have no idea what your title means but knowing how hilarious you are im sure its mighty funny as well, LOL. Really like the calm this pic brings, and also you cropped it beautifully...as you always do. Excellent work!!! Gonna see what else you put up in my absense......

OMG ... this are the fishermen you've told me about? Oooops. I was thinking at colourful old men with their boats, nets and all the like - not this kind of fishermen. But this way, your image has another kind of quality as well. Guess their wifes aren't all to proud about them? Hehe ... Oh, btw.: did anyone of them ever capture something? Except midgets .. lol
