Description
Omanii the Smiling is a Yellow and is the youngest daughter of Prince Vahlois and his second wife, Sindia. She is the shortest and stockiest of Vahlois's daughters, but that doesn't bother the sensual Yellow. Her sisters might be beautiful tall mountains, but she saw her rubescent figure as a lovely prairie; not as high as them, and a lot wider; yet with enough contours to be enteresting. Cheerful and outgoing, she loves sex, is an accomplished lover, and fairly radiates sensuality. The East is her direction and she is a Farsee-er, a seer who regularly gets glimpses of the future that always come true.
Omanii regards this gift as being as much curse as blessing. At seven years of age, she knew her grandfather, K'nishi, would lead a shooshtah-dai into the Old Lands and be killed. She knew and could not speak of it because it might affect the prophecy. She forsaw the death of her beloved sister, Liiih, to whom she was closest, and could speak of it to no one for the same reason. Yet, at age seven, she also was the first to "see" the human, Newman, and know he was the legendary "Gift-from-the-Sea" that the prophet, Arr-vak, foretold. Although she did not know his name until she met him at age eighteen, Omanii was also the first to admire and fall in love with Newman. The other frustration with her gift was that she never learned anything that she really wanted to know, such as whether or not her sister, Sha'a'an had survived. It wasn't until four days before the Orange arrived, that the Yellow knew she had. When she told her sisters that they would all be wed to the outlander by that fall, Rey'ch'el becomes very upset because if the Yellow said it was going to happen, it happened; and the White wanted no part of it.
The Yellow was disappointed when the outlander (Newman) did not take her as a lover, when he had already become the lover of Sha'a'an and Liiih. This was not due to Newman not being attracted to the Yellow, but because he seemed to need Rey'ch'el's approval and mistakenly thought she would disapprove of such a liaison. Once the White realizes what is going on, she makes it clear to Newman that as long as he leaves her alone and treats Omanii as she wishes to be treated by him, Newman willingly takes Omanii as his third Sweet Sister, promising to cherish her no less than her sisters.
