Just a hobbyist who started with Bryce some years ago and moved to Poser/Carrara when that proved too limiting. Always been interested in doing character portraits.
BIOI got into the hobby dreaming of doing character portraits for RPGs but thinking it was beyond me. Both with practice and the right tools, it caem within reach.
Recently I've homed in on an "illustrated" style that is the look I've always wanted to achieve and I've been focusing on that.
Hope you enjoy it.

I like her pose ! Good work with the holding hemlet thing, too. And are those horns on her head ? grin Very nice work!

Thank you, both. Those are horns coming out of her head- she is supposed to have a touch of fiendish blood ;-) To do this, I did a render in Carrara with DCG's ToonPro with all white shaders to get the lines. I also did a photo realistic render. In photoshop, I simplified the PR render with the Buzz simplifier then used the standard paint-dabs filter to give it the paint look. Then I overlaid the lines from the Toonpro render. I changed the color of the face and hair lines to be closer to the skin and hair tones and removed a few unnecessary lines to avoid clutter. That's pretty much it. It isn't a terribly time consuming technique. I'll try it on a few more characters. Also want to try it with more pastel tones for an art-deco kind of look. The pose was done in Poser and I just experimented to get that jaunty feel. Thanks, again. Marc
