A Tiger for Mea (Photoshop) www.renderosity.com/mod/gallery/index.php

I have been drawing since I was 11, some 33 years ago.
My 6th grade teacher, Mr. Knoss, was a great artist and I greatly admired his illustrations. He encouraged me to pursue my artistic interests at a crucial time in my development.
My High School art teacher "Vern", was also a great influence. He always challenged me to try different things.
I was lucky that my parents were very supportive of my interest in art. I studied at The Minneapolis College of Art and Design (1986-1990). Where I was humbled by many great artists that were far more talented than I. There it was that I rounded out my fine art skills, and then chose to major in Media Arts. Studied film, video and sound. Learned all the skills needed to shoot, direct, edit those mediums.
While pursuing a Media Arts major, I discovered computer graphics, still in it's infancy. This is where I came to an Epiphany. Here was a new medium, that incorporated everything I had previously learned into one new medium. Not only that, but it had new dimensions, interactivity, feedback, randomness, AI. I was hooked.
The next 17 years I learned and grew with the industry. Learning everything from how to create and manipulate digital imagery and create animations, to interface design and interactive authoring. My day job is an Information Architect, a fancy term for software interface design.
A few years back, my wife and I hit on some difficult times (As many people do) and it was during a very dark time in our lives that I discovered what became Renderosity, Initially I posted work, merely as a way to get myself back into the discipline of making new art.
I was delighted to find a world-wide community of talented artists, exchanging ideas and art!! I was thrilled! I have learned so much from you, and your art has brightened up my world. I am lucky to have made some great friends here, and I aim to do tributes to all of you!

1)My personal definition of art: it is that which reminds us that we have forgotten that we don't know who we are. 2) I frequent any gallery that strike my fancy on a particular day. 3) see definition #1 4) I put impressionistic art on my desktop and walls. 5) see definition #1 6) I fail to comment on works that are just too negative or dark. 7) I can't justify broadband ... still use a dial-up connection. It's slow. 3)

1)What is your personal definition of art? Any work that stirs the emotions and makes you think...an expression of oneself. 2)What galleries do you most frequent? The Photography galleries. 3)What genres are your favorite? B&W and Color, including monotone, duotone, and quadtone images. 4)What art do you put on your walls/desktop at home? My home has mostly my own photography and gifts from others, my desktop has one of my favorite images from Renderosity, and my screensaver rotates through all my favorite images from RR! 5)What images do you most often comment on? The ones that knock my socks off! been there and seen most of it in redundancy, so if it's fresh and unique I usually comment if I see it! 6)What images do you hesitate to comment on? Anything containing nudity because I feel that nudity should be shared in private between one man and one woman. 7)Are you inhibited in anyway due to technology i.e. a slow modem? No, I can surf like the wind with a cable modem, however, I increasingly find that RR is getting slower and slower to load pages...I can't imagine going back to dial-up modem to view images on RR. Now I shall go forth into all the world of RR and break wind...[]/;^)

1)Antything creative that is a result of imagination, talent, and/or skill and then viewed! 2)If you are referring to Art Galleries, not many! If your refering to artist galleries as here at Renderosity, Online, 3D, and where I post, then those that comment on my work, some of their favorite artists, all via my Favorite Artist List, a couple of times a month, whats in the Top 20, then what has been resently posted! 3)What genres are your favorite? Faerie, Fantasy, Fractal, scenic/landscape 4)What art do you put on your walls/desktop at home? Very small amount of Faerie Art, very little art on my walls, and no desktop or else my last render 5)What images do you most often comment on? 80% of everything I view. see #2 6)What images do you hesitate to comment on? Anything I find unpleasant or objectionable, usually Violence Pornography, or the Dark Occult 7)Are you inhibited in anyway due to technology i.e. a slow modem? NO!

I have asked myself similar questions as to what we find here at Renderosity. Have I found any answers to my questions? Not really. I have at least come to the conclusion that the Hot 20 or Most viewed or Commented are a waste and should be done away with since they in no way reflect anything but a popularity contest of who kissed more butts. Then there is the problem with the ebots from ones favorite list of artist as it undermines other valued work that is missed by not checking a specific genre or all the galleries. Maybe if we do away also with the Favorite Artist and the dreaded ebots, we will then have a look at the other work. So while I am on my soap box blasting away, I have one (maybe final) beef. Apart from seeing dogs and cats and other snap-shots, I find file size to be a huge concern. With a 56k line, things do get slow and time is precious to me. Having ones spent 5-6 hours a day commenting, I found I had little time for anything else. Now that I have cut my favorite Artist list down in size and only comment on worthy material, I actually have some time left over to create. Oh yes, one more thing. Just because we can upload one image a day for free, does not mean we should. If we are honest with ourselves and only upload that which we feel we have given our best to you, the quality on Renderosity would skyrocket. As they say, Less is more.
