Description

"It's easier to go down a hill than up it but the view is much better at the top." --Henry Ward Beecher

I thought I'd share some more of the wonderful vista presented me from the top of the lighthouse. Sorry for the large file size, but I wanted to give you a good idea of how far you could see and all of the interesting little details. The top panorama is a broader view of St. Augustine. You can see the construction cranes that are working on the Bridge of Lions and part of the old fort on the far right. Beyond St. Augustine are some residential area and then vast areas of wilderness, broken up by the occasional golf course and farm, until you reach the St. Johns River. In the second photo the view is panned right and on the right, you can see white line of Anastasia Inlet where the harbor and intercoastal waterway opens to the ocean. To the left of that is the Francis and Mary Usina Bridge that connects Highway A1A from Vilano on the ocean side to St. Augustine on the inside. Vilano beach is a popular place for parties and driving your vehicle on the sand. Below and to the left of the bridge is a marina where Lisa and I had lunch at the Conch House restaurant. We thoroughly enjoyed it and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting. :) In the bottom photo, the scene is shifted to the right again so that the view is approximately due east. The blue ocean is in the distance and Anastasia State Park separates it from St. Augustine Inlet. The area to the right once opened to the ocean, but the shifting shoreline has since closed it off and now it is a safe harbor for the number boats you see. The lighthouse itself is located on a barrier island which is known as Anastasia Island. I hope you enjoyed this mini-tour of the area. You can learn more about the St. Augustine lighthouse HERE. ----- Thanks for stopping by and for your erect comments on yesterday's photo, St. Augustine Lighthouse.

Wonderful views, it kind of reminds me of Darwin, because of the tropical setting.
