Description
First thing first, I didn't make the image with this in mind, but as I was about to upload it now I wanted to point out that this is like a different 'reality'.. the diver isn't too surprised to see the monster since they're common in that world. (Hence the spear and armor) So I figured, "Hey I'll make up 'n write a tiny little background story for the picture.. just a paragraph or two"..
Well.. it grew.. like a fungus :} And try as I might to trim it down in size it just wasn't workin' too well. So I just let it be long, and seeing as my notes are long enough (too long heh), I don't wanna put it here. So if anyone cares to see this few-hundred-word "mini" story, I had my bro stick it up on SSP.com -- HERE.. hmm.. was supposed to just be like text, he made it all important looking, anyhow..
This is only for a reference of sorts.. I mean I do pictures, not books.. I'm no author, so if you click that and read it, you sufferer by your own choice! heh
Further more, if you expect proper grammar, sentence structure, and all that fancy stuff... you're insane ;]
-------------------------------
Anyway, as I promised when I uploaded my last image (Turtle), here's the Diver picture.
As with the "Giant SeaTurtle", this pic's a part of the Sea Monster Calendar (SMC) project. And also uploading this one mainly for reference of sorts since I showed parts of it before. Can see most of the diver's stuff in the "Dive Equipment" pic in my gallery, and the lantern he's holding was actually entered into the September 04 modeling challenge (topic "illumination") in the Wings3D forum here at Renderosity.
Sept 2004?? Yea, much older pic than even the turtle, used an old head inside the dive suit, still didn't have those human figures or that ship modeled at the time or anything :}
The beat-up shipframe was recycled from another SMC picture, modified from the one seen Here next to the small shipyard in a Thread about the Houses I did for the "Seaport" image in my gallery (that was used as a background for the October SMC image).. Everything's strangely inter-connected huh? some kinda conspiracy! heh
Here's the Diver's Wire/Mesh and Materials test render by the way (tall vertically, scroll up/down)
So this is the 2nd SMC pic Im putting here, and the last (SMC one) for a while. As I said in the turtle pic's description the best can do for now is goto the SMC page and scroll down, click thumb-nails to view others, at a pretty low res however :\ But that will have to do. Like all my pics there (September and December images aren't mine) this was modeled in Wings3D, rendered in RayDream 5.5, and post-worked Painter 5.5
Stay out of the water! -PC ;]

Wow! I think this is the best image I've seen done with Wings. Excellent work.

Nice image, I particularly like the 'dusty' look to the water - how did you do that? Lovely monster too, and I like the lamp although it looks difficult to waterproof. Didn't think of barrels for underwater pics, I may nick that idea... Do these monsters of yours have names?

Love it. Really wonderful rendering. The underwater environment is very believable.

Wow, what a genetic disaster! Helluva mutant critter you came up with. I'm surprised here isn't a yellow cloud in the water around the diver.
