Description

Another one from Roche Abbey. This time it's both of the big pieces that are still left of it. I liked the effect that the pattern in the lawn made in the foreground from this angle. The size of this place is a bit difficult to explain, but when I took this shot I was standing pretty much in the middle of it all. I read a bit about this place before we headed out there and the garden was created by someone by the name Capability Brown. The name kinda cracked me up, but used to be very common around here in the old days. Anyways....there were munks living at Roche Abbey for nearly 400 years, and by the time for the Dissolution ib 1538, there were only 14 of them left. It took 25 years to build and what you see on this photo is about 800 years old. And thanks for the comments on my last piccie of this place :)

Is it about to rain or did you burn the sky like that? Excellent picture also.

Blutak...it was raining on and off, and we had a neat storm shortly after. It just held it's breath for a while.

You are absolutely right about the mow pattern in the grass being a key. It leads the eye to the ruin. As an experiment, I "straightened up" the abbey walls in photo-edit. The result was the grass pattern looks flat and no longer leads - the straightened photo becomes more of a document rather than an engaging image. Well done.

Another winning shot. Seems to be a bit of a list to starboard though. Other than that: Poifect.
