found this Canadian goose in the park - rare to see around where I live......so sleepy ..when I snuck up on him to get close he moved and then I felt bad and didnt push it - could see clearly that he just wanted to be left alone ,I think he was so tired of flying south!.
This started off as a boring picture - so I played with it for a long while today and smudged and cloned and made up the tail and
the eye..
Heres a little info on them that most of you already well know!!
Canada Geese have a black head and neck, a broad white chin strap and a brown body. They are midsized between ducks and swans and enjoy both water and land.
There are many races of Canada Geese, ranging from the Mallard-sized 'cackling' race to giant Canada Geese that may weigh up to 5 kilograms (11 pounds). In winter the races might mingle, but Canada Geese mate for life and are faithful to their breeding grounds. The young geese, called goslings stay with their parents throughout their first year of life.
Male geese establish the nesting territory and defend it from intruders and predators. The nest is built of grasses, twigs, and reeds, often located along the shoreline. The nest is lined with down from the female's breast. There are usually four to seven eggs which hatch in three to four weeks. The gander stays with the female and helps to protect and raise the young. After hatching it takes from 40 to 85 days for the young to begin flying.
In flight Canada Geese can be seen moving through the skies in long lines or a V-formation, or wedge. There is a leader and each successive bird flies to the left or the right of the leader to form the V. The movement of air by the wings of each bird makes the job of flying a bit easier for the bird in back of it. The leader must do the most work. On long flights there may be several leaders who take turns.
I love them beacause I sleep with thier feathers everynight!!.. cannot sleep without my goosedown nope!

Yes, I can see that you played a little with the picture. I hardly recognized the Canadian goose in the picture (I know them well, they are very common in the Netherlands the last couple of years). The result of your efforts is beyond any doubt.. beautiful.

Wonderful capture of this Canada goose. We have a ton of them on the grounds where I work, seems they like to reside in the Connecticut countryside. As stunning as these lovely creatures are, it's no fun to be side stepping "goose grease" whenever taking a walk outside. Have you ever seen them flying in a V formation? Really quite impressive how they take turns being at the helm. No#1 goose has the toughet job( most wind resistance), so when he tires, he drops to the end of the formation(least wind resistance) and another one takes his place. Love the postwork, looks like an americana painting.
