Description

A shallow depth of field (DOF) or a deep one, a short exposure time or a long exposure time, that can be tough questions. These settings result in different pictures, as you can see. What one do you like the best? Minolta X-700 (Fuji Sensia 100, 100 mm) Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments

Since you asked, I prefer the second photo. I feel, that in this case, the "in focus" background adds to the composition of this lovely capture. And the winner is .................

You are so clever Jan-Carel!! We new photographers truly appreciate this lesson you are showing! To choose only one...hmmmm..lol I like them BOTH but for different reasons! The first shows more detail on the flowers and those little droplets of rain or dew. The second is so beautiful too though with the wonderful colors and waterfalls! I guess I would choose the one on the right overall but both are excellent! VV***

the second is my favorite as I prefer well focused photos but soft focus has it's place also. the flowers with water makes for an excellent subject

i definitely prefer the one on the right. with the long exposure, you captured the flowing water so perfectly...like silk! The one on the right is a far superior image IMHO because not only do you have that incredible waterfall background, but you also have those GORGEOUS flowers!!!! The first one is an ok image. the one on the right...OUTSTANDING!!! nice to see the comparisons! Excellent shooting!!!!

Both have their merit, but I think I prefer the second and the background doesn't distract me from the flowers...so well captured! Aloha!

The deep view on the right just looks better to me, Jan-Carel. The flowers are great and the rocky stream is a great background. Regards, John.

Both have it's own charme! I'm with Dave... me too, I think I prefer the second and the background doesn't distract me from the flowers.

Difficult question ! On the right, water movement is very good bur, flowers are very difficult to see. They melt with the backgroung. So I would say "left" setting to photograph the flowers, "right" setting if the subject is the water...

I prefer the one on the right. I really like the feel of the water cascading over the rocks :)
