Description

It's good to be back here! I'm currently living in New South Wales, Australia, with Cassie (crrunchyfrog) and her family. She's brought me back into natural media after a hiatus of what must be at least seven years, and taking me beyond what I'd previously experimented with. This is my first serious piece of sculptural work: a piece of cloth impregnated in acrylic impasto medium and creased into position over a 60x50cm canvas. This was then overpainted in acrylic paint, including the canvas itself. I really enjoyed this and have made another piece the same way, which I'll post next :-) Thanks for stopping by and for your feedback. I'm in the process of catching up with comments ;-)

How wonderful to see you here again! And so renewd and fresh! This pice surprised me - very positively! Australia seems to make miracles to you! :-) I can there in the sculpture lots of things, and lots of feelings. I love the way the cloth waves (and I wave to you and Cassie lol) Very interesting piece, makes me feel really good! And it works quite well as a 2d image too. huge hugs to all of you there :-)

Kewlness! It's great to finally see something of what you've been up to Jim, I love the way this kind of thing blurs the boundaries between 2D &3D, it seems to me I can see something reminiscent of your digital abstraction in this, very different in many ways but I still see something very Synapse about those colours & forms ; ) It's a great piece I only wish I could get my nose up close & see it for real!

I love the experimentation and willingness to explore new artistic realms -- both geographical and imaginative. Excellent piece. V

Welcome back, Jim! ...and greetings to Cassie too! I was expecting Australia and Cassie to have an effect on you, but was still surprised by this. At first glance I thought it was a wet towel lying on an extremely smooth beach near sunset(!), yet reading further I'm fascinated by the techniques you used. I think the success of this image lies in the way you have photographed it. And experimenting with lighting would be most interesting to see. Look forward to seeing more...

Thanks Nigel. I actually photographed it from four completely different corner-angles, and while the others were all interesting and almost as good, this one was the definitive :-)

Looked at 2nd and the reference (which i loved, her work in that piece was superb), but this is very fine on it's own, and i get what your doing. If there was only enough time in the day!

I love the contours and the twin colours which merge into each other. This is very impressive, indeed! Bravo!

It is really impressive to see ... how 2 dimensional things (as far as I know from your images) getting more tangible and start to speak. New ways to go ... enjoy ;)

I suppose strictly speaking this is really 3D as it exists in three dimensions rather than just a flat painting. However, this site generally means CGI when it refers to 3D, so I still kept this in the 2D category :-)
