I believe in the truth, and I am not afraid to express it.
What I am:
An American, vietnam veteran, father, moderate, moral and spiritual not religous, soldier citizen, voter, humanist.
What I am not:
Silent or subserviant.BIOI was 2nd born of five kids. I grew up in rural America, on a farm. Hunting and fishing wasn't merely a sport, it helped feed our family. I learned about hard work & hard life. Also the joys of nature. I strongly believe in the strict preservation of our natural resources.
I enlisted in the army in 1960. After finishing a full 4 year stint, I re-enlisted, and was sent to Vietnam. I was only 22 years old. My Vietnam war experience changed my perspective forever. I was exposed to Agent Orange, and have recently been part of the class action law suit over the health effects many Vietnam vets suffered, as a result of exposure to Agent Orange.
I feel that a true patriot, is someone who loves their country enough to criticize it's temporary leaders, when they jeopardize it's citizens unnecessarily. It is not patriotic to shut up, or tow the party lines. Our fore fathers, and many soldiers since, have bled and died to preserve that right. They firmly believed in the power of the soldier citizen, to protest against the central powers, should they go astray... So do I.
I am here to exercise my patriotic duty and right, to protest anything I deem harmful to the country I so deeply love.
You may not like what I have to say, but no one has the right to tell me I can't say it.
Peace and long life!
Money that we could have spent here in our country, to shore up our defenses. But instead we cut our police and fire departments, so that we can dump the money down some third world hole.

If we stop right now and bring them home have no doubt that all that has been accomplished will fall apart, and the very ones responsible for fostering the suffering and anarchy will blame us for that which they have initiated, and in a few years we will once again be forced to look up from our self indulged lives and count our dead (likely well have to count higher and faster than this)
Sivana
Sad but true! Great work!!!
ATruePatriot
I've heard your kind of banter before Mock, what would you have us do? Stay there forever? If not, then how long? Hmmm? You can't answer that. Or let me try for you, "As long as it takes!"....I have a prediction for you..it doesn't matter if it's 10 days from now, or 10 years. As soon as we pull out, Iraq will collapse into civil war, and a fanatical Islamic state will rise from the ashes. Exactly what we don't want to happen. And all those brave men and women will have died for what?
ATruePatriot
Oh yeah, and what was it we accomplished???? Security? Democracy? No answer for that either. It hasn't stopped the terrorists from attacking London, and it won't stop them from attacking us again. We know now, it's public knowledge, the current administration lied about Iraq's weapons programs and lied about Sadam's ties to Al'Qaeda. So are we liberators? Why didn't we do it in 1991, if it was the "Right" thing to do? See above prediction.
sackrat
So,.......what you're saying is , it would have been better to leave Sadam in Power ? Better the devil we know than the devil we don't ? It's better if the only people that are killed are Iraqi ? While Sadam's ties to Al'Qaeda may have been dubious at best, it is commonly known that he and his regieme were funneling money to Islamic Jihad, Hezbollah and the like. Oh but that's ok because the only ones being killed are Israelis ? There is an Al'Qaeda connection in Iraq now,....whether you choose to believe it or not. When an individual or organization tells me their stated aim is to see the flag of the Islamic Republic flying over every capital in the west, and their rallying cry is "Death to America"...I'm going to believe them,......take them at their word, so to speak. These are intelligent, highly motivated people who will stop at nothing to attain their goals. I would remind you of the words of Sir Edmund Burke " The only thing needed for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing".
Spacefan
Why in this way? Have they been forced to be killed for earning monthly income (by pressure of poverty in the USA)? Who empowered Hussein and who had which benefits from him? Where was G. Bush at the vietnam war? Why didn't he fight at that time? But many thanks from Germany to the US-Army for killing the Nazi-Regime. Without the US-Army the world would have become terrible. Better a strong US-Army than strong dictators.

That's the truth!
StrontiumBitch
Fascinating the power of the arguments that images such as this provoke. Well done and keep them coming. I am also fascinated by this modern myth that America saved the world in WW2, rather than the reality of itching to get into it so as to break their major industrial rivals - Germany and Japan. It seems the same for this current conflict. The West CREATED Saddam Hussein and Osama Bin Laden! Now they are the world's number one targets? It doesn;t make the slightest bit of sense to me......
jessejace
Spacefan would have a point, if not for the fact that the world IS terrible. Excellent image.
MFM008
what have we accomplished again? I think this image is accurate. We need to keep the troops there so so more can die to make the 2000+ DEAD feel better? Quit drinking the bush/cheney koolaid. Saddam H was a big nothing- zero. The Saudis are a greater danger- Iran- Syria~ dude wheres our bodies? We can't fight wars on 3 or 4 fronts. Also, what muslim isnt funneling money to terrorists? Get this in all your heads- They HATE us, they will NEVER have our style of Democracy~ ever. We will ALWAYS be infidels and they want to see GIs DIE. Get it? Got it? GOOD!
BARTWORX
this i think does not belong here at renderosity. The artwork yes thats nice job well done. All the fuzz around it not realy. Its imho the fault of the american people themself They did re-elect that moron for president again. So don't complain now ... Nice job on the counter in the artowrk ...
ATruePatriot
Great stuff! Sackrat, thank you for not stooping to the all to common Bush banter. You have some valid points, I don't want to see our way of life destroyed either. But MFM008 has it right, they (Fanatical Islamists .001% of all Islamists) will NEVER concede to our way of life. But you have to understand this, we are not fighting a "Nation war". there is no single capitol to conquer. Look at Iraq, we conquered it easily, but now it has become a Labreya Tar Pit. And they flood in from all around Iraq. We will never be able to destroy them on their own turf, because they are hidden among Islamic moderates, whom we should support! So why waste lives and hundreds of billions of dollars in some ****-hole that we will never democratize? When we could have spent it here, shoring up our defenses, employing many people, keeping the money in OUR economy, and saving 2000+ lives???? Answer me that one if you can.
stick
The mess we are involved in is just a waste! The lives that we lost are for nothing. I have a son in the military that has been over and thank God he came home alive and safe, some are not so lucky. STOP the carnage now!
ATruePatriot
I am so happy for you stick! I wish they all came home alive. That is great to hear. Peace.
hennik
Iraq had Sadam, the moslims have Bin Laden, the US have Bush
ATruePatriot
wizardtim, I respect the sacrifice they made, and I disagree with the intentions of the current administration. I didn't vote for Bush. Isn't it interesting, that this president has the lowest approval ratings in history? Non-secular, moderate and proud.
Bill_Wa
How Many? As Many as it Takes! We are The Few, The Proud, The United States Marine Corps, We're out here on the front lines, sleep in peace tonight! These people are ready to lay down their lives that you have the right to revile and denigrate them. Interesting. SEMPER FI!
ATruePatriot
Well Bill, obviously you only see what you want to see. Or you would know that I in no way, revile or denigrate our brave men and women that serve. I myself have served my country honorably in Vietnam, but you don't seem to acknowledge that either. Clearly your rage has blinded you to all but the order issued by the current Commander and Chief. You should be more respectful, as I am, of your fellow service men. P.S. "As many as it takes.." to do what? See above Actually, your banter sounds more like an army recruiter.

StrontiumBitch makes an interesting point, one most Americans are unfamiliar with. Before Japan attacked us at Pearl Harbor, we had placed heavy sanctions and oil embargos upon them, for the horendous things they were doing to China and in the East. Japan was very close to completely running out of oil, and the U.S. knew that. Yet we pushed them into an economic and industrial corner. Some would say the U.S. merely wanted Japan to cease thier aggressive conquests in Asia. Others have suggested that we wanted to go to war with them, that we ignored their embassadors who came to declare war hours before they struck Pearl Harbor, because they wanted the Japanese to look "Sneaky" and dishonorable. I am not totally convinced that is true. But I do know, as many of the most powerful leaders in the U.S. believed at the time, that there was no need to drop the first, and certainly not the second A-bomb on Japan. The war was already over. But that is another topic.

Now that the total issue has been examined --let me say that the ART is really quite excellent and your counter idea is a great one...good work--good creativity and imagination and a powerful stance and subject !!
ATruePatriot
Thank you TallPockets, for your honesty. I agree with you, all Americans, regardless of politics or service record have a right to free speech. And that freedom is not restricted to a single party or ideology. Peace to you and yours also.
Mark_uk
2000+ dead. Still nothing compared to thw 100000+ Iraqis murdered by the invasion force.
ATruePatriot
You are so right Mark_uk, the civilian casualties are horrific. But many of the Bush sycophant's would argue that they are part of unavoidable "Collateral damage". Personally I think it is a tragedy.
RobertX
cool pic, get your guys out of there and send Bush in!

i have heard that this war is an unwinnable one because it is against terrosts that wont give up no matter what. i feel we are getting in deeper into a matter that is beyond out control. i worry.. good upload... makes one think yes..

Hello, methinks it's time for a repost? ATruePatriot - First and foremost, my utmost thanks to you and to all who serve our great country. As to the comment "This should not be here at Renderosity" -- I find that to be sad 'commentary', indeed. Whether one 'agrees' or 'disagrees' with this person, or anyone's viewpoints or artwork, Renderosity has chosen a 'social commentary' topic to be represented at it's site. The last time I looked, we still do have freedom of speech in our country. Sadly, I feel that slipping away these days. Each is entitled to their opinions. Whether they be deemed credible or not credible, in my humble opinion. Our men and women serve to not only protect our country but to allow our freedoms and ways of life to continue, irregardless of what political party is in power at any given time. We eventually left the Vietnam 'conflict'. I have friends who served, were injured, impaired, or died in that war. Just because we finally left Vietnam, can not ever result in the feeling to me that they were 'injured or died' in vain. Such statements like that, to me, are beyond belief. Finally, I think that those who have served in uniform and risked all for 'us' the citizens of America, be they from either side of the political spectrum or neutral in political policy, have the MOST right to speak their opinions. They've been there and done that. Actions speak louder than mere words, in my humble opinion. Peace. TallPockets.
