I believe in the truth, and I am not afraid to express it.
What I am:
An American, vietnam veteran, father, moderate, moral and spiritual not religous, soldier citizen, voter, humanist.
What I am not:
Silent or subserviant.BIOI was 2nd born of five kids. I grew up in rural America, on a farm. Hunting and fishing wasn't merely a sport, it helped feed our family. I learned about hard work & hard life. Also the joys of nature. I strongly believe in the strict preservation of our natural resources.
I enlisted in the army in 1960. After finishing a full 4 year stint, I re-enlisted, and was sent to Vietnam. I was only 22 years old. My Vietnam war experience changed my perspective forever. I was exposed to Agent Orange, and have recently been part of the class action law suit over the health effects many Vietnam vets suffered, as a result of exposure to Agent Orange.
I feel that a true patriot, is someone who loves their country enough to criticize it's temporary leaders, when they jeopardize it's citizens unnecessarily. It is not patriotic to shut up, or tow the party lines. Our fore fathers, and many soldiers since, have bled and died to preserve that right. They firmly believed in the power of the soldier citizen, to protest against the central powers, should they go astray... So do I.
I am here to exercise my patriotic duty and right, to protest anything I deem harmful to the country I so deeply love.
You may not like what I have to say, but no one has the right to tell me I can't say it.
Peace and long life!
Money that we could have spent here in our country, to shore up our defenses. But instead we cut our police and fire departments, so that we can dump the money down some third world hole.

Good writing and meaningful words--the art is very effective in the animated form with the 'counter' adding up the tragic toll...an art work of vision and meaning--Excellent and appreciated !

Thanks! Truer words were never spoken, though they should have been over and over, louder and louder until someone hears. As for those who disagree, I wore the same uniform you did to defend thier right to do so, no how matter how misguided they may be. Thanks for sharing. BJ
intro
"I don't think anyone could have imagined..." ..jetliners that actually kill people when slammed into buildings...hurricanes that actually cause damage...needless, bungled wars that actually kill soldiers...loss of world good will, while we do an impersonation of the nazis...nuclear threats from an "axis of evil" of our own making...three trillion in debt for our kids, while we give tax cuts to the rich during a war/occupation. So that's the problem...an administration with NO IMAGINATION. They use the excuse that now there are "no good options". As if no one knew. Everyone, except them, knew. Time it was, when we awarded our vote to leaders because they knew more than us. Time it was, when we knew better than to "hire out" our elections. Bush/Cheney know this: Never kill the "Billion Dollar Boggie Man". So much for "imagination". "It's not who votes that counts. It's who counts the votes."

How many more? As many as it takes until the war with Islamofascism is defeated so that freedom of expression such as yours is guaranteed; so that women are treated as equals, not as property; so that people are free to choose their religion, their partners, their life, not forced to bow to Mecca or marry the man who is chosen for them. Like it or not, Civilization is once again at war with Barbarism. Like it or not, the enemy has time and time again demanded our heads (literally). Like it or not, George W. Bush and others are saving your ass and mine. Remove the blinders and view the enemy of all free people. You cannot wish it away. It is there, for the moment on the periphery, distant in Iraq, Somalia, Pakistan, Indonesia. But it also lurks in our midst. In Canada, where they plot to blow up Parliament and behead your Prime Minister. In the U.S., where they have murdered 3,000 of us. How many more? Until they are destroyed.

@ alpharalph, if you had read your history, you would know "They" have always hated us, "They" will always hate us. Going to Iraq, wasting 315 TRILLION dollars on some %@%$# -hole that WILL dissolve into civil war (Before, or after) we leave, costing us thousands of dead American, hundreds of severely wounded Americans is/was a total WASTE!!! Oh yeah, WE ARE NO SAFER THAN WE WERE!!!! Now, if we had spent the money here, kept the troops here, we would be safer, put the money into OUR economy, and we would not have 2,689 DEAD young men and women and tens of thousands wounded!!! You are obviously one of the "CRUSADERS", so GO, join up!!! Too old? Then be a SOLDIER OF FORTUNE!! But by all means, go fight your CRUSADE!!! Just don't expect our brave young men and women to follow president monkey boy into his CRUSADE!!! I see no mention in your rant about the fact that Islamo-fascists don't have a capitol? So what? Burn and bomb everything in hopes of getting them? YOU JUST DON'T GET IT DO YOU? The war isn't OVER THERE, it's right HERE!!! This is a war of ideologies, you can't win a war of ideology with BOMBS!!!!! What we should have done after 9/11 was this 1) Fix our nations intelligence agencies 2) Fix our nations disaster response programs 3) Start (And finish) global programs to help other nations get out of the poverty and misery, there by lessening the disenfranchised that are most likely to join the Islamo-fascists in the first place!! REMEMBER THIS!! "THEY" hated us before 9/11, invading Iraq was like creating the ultimate recruiting campaign for them!!! DO YOU UNDERSTAND??? Of course you don't....it's obvious by your uninformed comment....

time and again this discussion flares up everywhere. let's face facts. when we take all the points bush accused saddam hussein (and other 'rogue' states) of, what do we see? saddam - attacking an other country - Y / bush - Y (attacking other countries) saddam - telling lies - Y / bush - Y saddam - weapons of mass distruction - N / bush - Y (still developing new ones) saddam - denying people fundamental rights - Y / bush - Y (in the name of 'the fight against terror') saddam - murderer of his own people - Y / bush - Y (killed over 100 people on death row, even if you call it 'execute' it's murder) bush's so called 'war on terrorism' made things worse, not better as we all can see.

I too am an American Veteran, Vietnam, the 1st War fought for the Lies of the establishment.I was Shot at and missed while there, Spit on and Hit when I returned. I am glad at least we learned one thing since then. All Men and Women in Uniform Serving our Country in Harms way are Heros, they are doing their Jobs. It's not their fault our "Leaders" are Corrupt, Self Serving, S%&* Heads that never put their Lives on Line the for Anything, much less even Serve in the Military. You are Right On Man! BRAVO PEACE
svdl
Well said. It's the military that do the difficult jobs and sometimes pay the ultimate price. My hat's off to them. As for the administration that sent these young men and women off to die... I'd better not say. I'm afraid that the terrorists WANT the US army to stay in Iraq. Why do I think so? Because the fastest and easiest way for the terrorists to get rid of the US presence would be to sit on their hands for a couple of months. Why should the terrorists want the US to stay? Indeed, the perfect recruiting campaign. And they don't have to do anything, the US administration does all the work. Plus the advantage of fighting on 'home turf', they know the terrain, the culture, the people. This US administration has done more to advance the cause of the terrorists than Osama bin Laden himself. He and his cronies must be laughing themselves silly! And the soldiers and citizens pay the price. As always.
