Description

This is a pen-n-ink assignment I inked for one of my early art classes in 1982. The assignment was to include the techniques of: hatching, cross-hatching, stippling and ink washes, shadowing, and high contrast. I was very much learning about classical music at the time (I was 20yo), and the subject Franz Peter Schubert, (a young contemporary of Beethoven) I am a direct decendent of, my middle name being Schubert....

I never do this, but I must question the validity of this piece. You claim it is a pen and ink work, this means you scanned the image to upload. This image contains pixelization on its very surface that suggests it is a saved image from a weak file source... Not a scanned work at all. Maybe your saving method is corrupt, or you don't have your settings quite right. Contact me, and we can nip this in the bud together.

Sorry to disappoint you, Sixaxis, this IS a pen-n-ink drawing, done when I said it was done. I finally photographed it about 4 years ago, with a friend's older digital camera. So now I have the original pen drawing AND a digital version. The original drawing was for an assignment as stated, but the final product was to be in the form of an old style record jacket, with a text overlay. I will admit that to get the image to the required Renderosity size for posting, it may have lost some resolution. I don't claim anything other than the truth. I am proud of my art, I don't have to upload something that isn't mine, then claim it is. I am sorry you are skeptical.

Hi Todd, Firstly many thanks for your informative comment on "Trafalgar." Posting the image has proved very worthwhile in finding its name, a little of its actual history, and now your background. I has a photographer was mainly a pictorialist. Now for your image. It shows you had a high degree of competence as a student. I trust you continue to use the skills acquired. The ink washes certainly give the image a dramatic quality and accentuate not only the black and white contrast, but draw out the artificially created grey tones. As for Franz Peter, what an ancestor! Cliff.

Sixaxis, what is your problem? If the artist says it's his artwork - then it's his - and however he created it - is how he created it. Apparently SOMEONE has an issue with incompentency - and doesn't realize it's better to note someone rather than blast the crap out of them in a comment field. No wait! I just did that myself! Touche! Todd, this is great. I dont care how you created it. I just wish you would create more and post another.
