Description

As soon as he was able, Rinn got to his feet and tried to heavy door, locked as expected. He then searched around until he found a likely looking key. The key turned easily in the lock and the door swung open. Light flooded into a small almost bare stone room. And there, against the wall, was the body of a girl looking very small despite even in the tiny space. Heavy chains hung from her limbs and neck, binding her to the wall. She was pale and dirty and tattered and starved-looking and lay unmoving as if dead. And yet, he knew her in an instant. He rushed to Jessa's side and gathered her up close to him, fearing the worst. Only then did he hear her gentle breathing and feel a warmth in her skin. Not dead! Thank the gods, she's not dead! The girl in his arms stirred. She started to pull away until she opened her eyes and looked up at him. "Are you all right?" he asked. At first, she said nothing, her eyes wide in wonder. Tentatively she reached out her hand and touched his cheek. "Rinn?" He smiled down at her. "I'm here." She stared for several moments, shivering as emotion overwhelming her words. "It's okay," he said softly and drew her to him. "Ishar's gone. Forever." Rinn held Jessa comfortingly as she clung to him as if afraid he'd vanish at any moment. He couldn't tell if she was laughing or crying, perhaps it was both. All he knew is that she was safe and with him now. It was only then that he felt he had won. « Next First Page Previous »

You really set the mood on this one, Mea. Love the lighting and congrats on writing a great story. I'm on the edge of my seat, antisipating the epilogue.

Oops! Sorry I'm late! This is one of the best scenes in the story! The story is wonderful, and everything building up to this scene has been fantastic! What really stands out for me in this image, is the textures!!! The sores on her body from the shackles, the tattered soiled clothing, the rusty chains! Fantastic!! Her hair could be messier, but who cares? The lighting is great still dark (As it should be)but a bit more luminous like the light at the end of the tunnel! A great "Quiet" victory scene!! Awesome story telling!!!!
