Description
Rutting season at Pt Reyes... and conspicuous signs to stay away from the tule elk, who were, supposedly, preoccupied and grouchy.
Actually, it was hard not to see elk, who were communal and preoccupied with eating as much as possible before winter.
Until the fog lowered.
The elk moved like fog, too, flowing over the crests and settling into the hollows.
That made it equally hard to see or not to see them. The damp chill also explained why they were enthusiastically packing on winter weight. By the time we got back to the car, my braids were sopping wet... but their fur probably won't dry until spring comes again.
