Description

Looking down on the Grosse Aletschgletscher you can see it won't be easy to cross it. Unfortunately once again no red dot moved around to show the size of the details of this glacier, so you have just to believe my word (I could paste a few people in it but uh... nope, that's not fair). The seracs (pinnacles of ice among the crevasses) are at least 30 meter (100 feet) long and most of them 60 meters (200 feet) long (I mean in the direction towards us), and at least 6 meters (20 feet) high! The width of this entire capture is about 1.5 kilometers (almost a mile). And this frigid procession moves from the right to the left with a speed of 50 cm/day (20 inches/day). Minolta X-700 (Fuji Sensia 100, 300 mm) Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments

Thank you for your notes, without them it would have been impossible to imagine the size of that thing. Awesome capture, almost looks surreal as if it was taken from some "wasteland-movie-scene" or something. Have a wonderful day!!! #:O)

"Seracs?" No, all I see are goblins rising from their icy tombs. Great capture of this effect -- Dick

It looks intimidating but awesome at the same time. Nature is wonderful and should make human beings feel humble. Wonderful imagery.

The old story about deciding whether to just ride the log with the others or jump off and swim could apply to a robot of Martian type on this glacier. 20 inches per day? Why fight it!
