Description

Nice songs never last long — Willy Vandersteen (Flemish strip-writer) Unfortunately I have to conclude this series. This is a detail of Eggishorn 5, the Aletschhorn (4195 m, 13763 ft). The fresh snow on this top is still visible (it snowed a few days ago) and even now the temperature is low, I guess about 5 centigrades Celsius (about 40 degrees Fahrenheit) with quite some wind. It's no luxury to find a place out of the wind! After enjoying the vista I decided to go down, back via the railway station, the track to Kühboden, Fürri Hutte and eventually Martisberg. I was very grateful to God to reach the car after a hike with a height-difference that reached 1730 meters (5676 feet)! I've never felt before fit enough to do something like this and I felt - as you've seen - almost in a state of grace to reach the summit, absorb the vista and freedom, and return safe and sound home! Thank you so much for your enthusiastic comments, IM's, votes, favorites! I am glad to share my experiences with all who like to accompany me (virtually) on a hike like this! Minolta X-700 (Fuji Sensia 100, 200 mm) Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments

Jan, I ranked this as excellent only because there is no OH MY GOD!!! rating available. You do some of the most stunning work I have ever seen. No little matter that your work inspires me to come and visit with you some day. I wish my health and wealth could allow it. I would love to take a journey through some of the scenes you have shown us with your camera!

Watching the snow blow off the summit is a feeling of icey whistfulness. Too stay one must enjoy the cold and to just pop in is not enough.
