Description

Zooming in on Sion you can see the vineyards there with their typical roads and separations. And you can see the castle, or do I need to zoom even more? Nah, that would be boring, though? The modern apartment buildings are contrasting with the older buildings on the hills, and digging a little in the history of this city I see it has become an Episcopal see back in 585 (yep, more than 14 centuries back)! It was an important strategic location to the Simplon Pass. Enjoy your Sunday! One wonders if the terracing came from Babylon or Marco Polo's travels. Vinaculture is far from tea but there is civilization to the evolution from wild grapes in the Piedmont. The mountains dwarf this very large city and present the cathedral as a necessary monstrosity. Thanks for illuminating this secret.

Very impressive! Really, what can you add about the majesty of the Alps!! You have captured the grandeur so well. I like the terraced fields in the background. They add an agrarian touch to the hill. Well done.

The modern built up area both adds a punch to the scale of the hills and puts a different sense of forground interest in. Brilliant shot again jc. If that was the view from my office window, I don,t suppose I'd last long in the job!

A beautiful scene Jan-Carel!! I was beginning to wonder where people actually live amongst all of these mighty mountains...hehe It is good to see this city nestled amongst them. :-) I would also love to see the architecture up close. So this is in Switzerland? It is a beautiful place to live!! Excellent!

Nice picture, J.C.! It brings back the memories. Thanks for the dedi, a couple of days ago. As you know I'm rather busy with our new home. I'll be back at work this week, so we could have a chat now and then. I'm looking forward to the next picture.
