Well... think it's about complete. Took a three layers of passes and about 3 hours to render.
Comments always welcome.

Awesome work -- I enjoyed seeing the WIPs for this, you defintely did the model justice. Keep it up!

Menacing and moody...I love it!

Looks good. very good job on the textures indeed.. but what did you do with the camera! Seldomly seen a GREAT model like this so boringly plopped in a frame... looks like a photograph for a wax statue of the model... think ridley...i'd say. Anyway, looks great, i just think the model deserves a bigger role in your image, cos now the crewmates look tiny and the alien normal, instead of the crew normal-size and the alien huge...

totally cool! i love it! really gives the mood.
Isoline
Ah yes, the good old "Space Jockey" scene from Alien.

Final pic looks kool Sean, but I agree with Rinus, it seems a bit dull and could use some exciting camera angles. Well done & Cheer's :o)

A fine render indeed. Excellent work!

I've a window playing that scene side by side with Safari and all I can say is, that is totally, totally amazing!! It might might need slightly more contrast, and perhaps a slightly less grainy render, but make no mistake, this is an amazing work!
funkfrog
the lighting on it is spot on, perfect all round :)

Maybe my next render will be bigger. It was pointed out to me that I forgot about the volumetrics for the headlamps..... I'll have to re-render it later. Next time I'll also try a different camera angle. There were so many surfaces, sub-D polygons, volumetrics and radostity, that my system could load, but not render, the scene. So I had to make certain objects invisible to the camera and render the background, then the middle ground, and then the foreground. Including the astronauts, the scene had nearly 13 million sub-D polygons... I never thought I would make a mesh that would over tax the resource on my current system....I need more RAM......

Without doing a side by side comparison, I have to say it looks just how I remember the scene from the movie. I'm not sure what the complaint about the camera is. Doesn't it pull back to this very angle. Sure, at some point it would be good to see closer angles but this is a good start. Awesome job on recreation!!!

looks very real: wow!

Looks rather interesting. Would like to see more though

I'm speechless... this is incredible work. You are an inspiration, sir. Definitely gets my VOTE.

Very accurate depiction. I agree with the others that it lacks some "ooomph". JMO-- lighting is too even. Take a look at how Ridley Scott lit Aliens (he, his brother Tony, and Michael Bay all share a kind of genius with lighting). . . they create drama with uneven-ness, small bright areas, and then things in the shadows. IMO nothing is really scary with flat lighting. Actually, Giger's concept art always has very strong shadowing too.

A wonderful model in a great shot! Bravo! Where did you find (or better where I can find) the astronauts 3d meshes?
Eromanric
I created the Astronauts as well.

Wow! Quite impressive scene! :) Wonderful atmosphere...

Started to peek at your gallery and thought immediately that the atmosphere was awesome and I now I see why....you got LW, lol. Add to that your skillful modelling and scene setup and all I can say is Brilliant!!

Really fine work on this. I might have chosen a different POV to give a greater impression of size, but this is top-notch work, from any angle!!
