Description

Ok, I had a lot of folks ask me what a typical Sparrowhawk class cruiser looked like inside. As a result; I am doing a series of high resolution renders of some of their interior. This is a render of a typical corridor near the outer hull areas of the ship. Note the crystalline materials used in it's construction. This render took a whopping 3 weeks to render due to all the light sources, transparencies and reflections. If you want the full size version let me know and Ill see if I can UL it to you but it is HUGE. Expect more soon.

Quite sleek. Appropriate for your Sparrowhawk-Class renders!

Three weeks! You have nerves of steel. A render like that is just asking for a power cut. Very realistic lighting setup. Excellent work.

Three weeks? OMG, thats about two and a half weeks longer than my longest. Very nice work though, the lighting and surfaces are extremely convincing :-)

Thats 3 weeks NOT including restarts for power outages, I had two. Total was about 4.5 weeks. Its all the lighting sources that make it take so long. Just wait until I do the next one, I'm going to do the main cybernetics bay next, then engineering and then the bridge. I just wish I had a faster CPU the Athlon 64 3000+ just isnt really designed for this kind of work. Next time Ill get the FS chip.

You should see the full size image, I always render at 1600x1200 at 300DPI so I can get good printouts. There is ten times the amount of detail. You can see the individual keys on the door lock plates for example. The Cybernetics bay, which I am working on as we speak, will have even more detail.

Increasing Resolution or DPI usually reduces image quality. I don't mind the wait. And when I print I usually do one at 8x10 and if I like it, I sometimes get a poster made.

Amazing work. You should send this to 3D World magazine and Eovia.

Im working on a better one which should be done soon. It will have much more detail. I am modeling it as a series of seperate models and once I have all the components completed I will just pull them in and compose it.

I'me sorry to be sounding off. Wrongness, in any form, well--appalls me! As a pro photographer with nearly 60 years experience I hope my comments will prove of value. I learn more and more every day--what fun!

I am finally getting good at doing highly detailed skin textures. I hate using the vertex modeler so almost everything in this is done with splines. I have the ships cybernetic bay rendering now, well the first shot of it anyway. I will be doing three of four renders of the bay since it is a two level complex and it is hard to get all of it in without using a wide angle lens effect for the render, and I don't like the way the wide angle pinches a lot of the image. The first render is at 14% after one day so hopefully, barring power outages, it will be sent up in a few more days. If anyone has a spare Athlon FS chip and some memory they wanna donate, let me know.. LOL

It seems that your textureing and your lighting has improved 10 fold keep on pluging away your on your way, and i havent bought C- 5 yet i am really lagging.

I won't be buying C5 for a long time, it's just too expensive right now. I've been playing with different texturing techniques larelt. Im working on one of the ship's A-Grav Tank storage areas. I think you'll like the Grav-Tank, its a cool design. The main tank model is done, Im just building up the bay around it, and doing more textures and fixing up the lighting.CHeck out the Cybernetics bay here as well, Im really happy with the way that one came out.

I know that I'm commenting on this one almost five years later. However been going through your gallery (not a bad one in the bunch). This one really got my attention--its a beauty. However, three weeks of rendering (not including power outages) YIKE, TRIPPLE YIKE--just wondering how long it would take you today with Carrara 7 and your QUAD? Jan
