Description

For those who asked. Ths is a depiction of the main cybernetics bay aboard the Sparrowhawk class Attack Cruiser "Vengeance", also known to the crew as the "Crystal Bay" Sparrowhawks are kept going by sentient and intelligent crystalline entities which are as far from a normal computer as a Cray system is from an old fashioned abacus. Each crystal actually has two "bodies"; the first being the ship itself and a second biological "walking" body who interacts with the captain and crew. In an emergency the crystal is capable to taking complete control of the ship and getting it to safety even after the ship has taken horrendous damage. These crystal are created with a basic set of information and then form their own personality much as a child would. The crystals are named based on their serial number; in this case MIA-109 or "Mia" pronounced "meeya". The crystal's walking body is quartered on the lower level of the crystal bay which will be my next render. Skins and textures done in Paint Shop Pro 9, modeling rendering, skinning and final effects done in Carrara 4. Resized in PSP 9. This one only took about a week to get a good render at least. I wish we didn't have a 512K limit, the full size render shows every little detail, you can even read the letters on the keyboard keys. 2 of the starfield were found on the web and modified to be used as monitor displays for the overhead screens, so if you see one of your starfields let me know and I will give full credit, everything else is original.

Great job. I really like you work. My only nitpick would be that I have never seen that much open space on any ship (I'm ex-navy). But I really love the attention to detail you show with this. Can't wait for more!

The Sparrowhawk is approximately 3.5 miles long and has a compliment of about 120,000 including crew, ships troops anf crews dependants. They basically live on these ships for as long as they choose space duty, it is their home so the ship is designed to be as non-cramped and esthetically and ergonomically friendly as possible. The next render will be the lower level where the crystal's walking body is quartered. I may do either the bridge or engineering bay next. Maybe one of the fighter bays, I should have folks vote on what they want next. :) Thanks for the compliments.

I was curious what the inside would look like. You have a hanger deck for us, too?

Awesome control center with lots of detail and depth. The display screens look great. The POV makes it look like you could step right into this scene. Super image.

Thanks for the good feedback. I am going to be doing one of the ships's 30 fighter bays soon. I want to do some more detailing on the Raptor fighters she carries first. I try to do a raised perspective POV on my scenes, for just that effect of being able to walk right into it with your mind. If you think this was detailed, wait until I get to the ship's Bridge. :)
