Description
The first Winter of 1620 was very hard on the Pilgrims; however, with help from the local Indians, the fall harvest of 1621 was a great success. The celebration lasted 3 days with much eating and socializing.
In 1823, Sarah Hale (Publisher) starting writing to the President, members of Congress and everyone else of whom she could think to request that a day of Thanksgiving be a National Holiday. Forty (40) years later, President Lincoln declared "Thanksgiving Day" to be the last Thursday of the month of November. BUT, Congress did not make it an official holiday until 1941!
