Description

This started as an exercise in the use of color to simulate light and evolved from there over the past few weeks. A true master and teacher of this can be found here: http://www.goodbrush.com/mainpage/index2.htm The contrast of loose brush (background foliage) work and tight brush work (such as the boy or the frog) strike a good feel for me. Painted with Painter and Photoshop

I look at galleries from many different genre's here, so I don't always know immediately what I'm looking at. At first I thought this was a photograph, but the frog was too big, so I thought perhaps it was a Poser image composited into a photograph, but then something about the lighting on the boy looked a little too blue, so I thought perhaps he was composited in as well. It wasn't until I scrolled down that I realized it was a painting. Top notch work. Very, very realistic. (I'm the guy at the movies pointing out the CGI artifacts... "Ooh, look! They didn't anti-alias the perspective correction in their texture!!")

The very first thing I noticed once this opened up was the "lighting" on the rock midground-left and in the boy's hair so I guess this exercise worked, Ken '-)! And I really love all the little details like the splash and the stray bits of grass/plantlife that really bring this to life!!

I love this light source, how it hits the top of the boys head on down to the frog. Takes you right to the point of interest. Always superb work. Your work is pure joy!!!!!!
