Description

This is a concept painting done for a book cover of a story about a boy who develops a relationship with a mysterious crow with steely blue, almost human eyes. The final version is somewhat different as the author pointed out that boy was to be 12 years old (which somehow escaped me completely) and wanted the crow's position to be changed and I can not show it yet in any case. So I thought to share this , this version remains mine. Painted with Photoshop and Painter

This is such a rich and mysterious illustration, Ken. I love how you have painted the boy looking away from us, into the distance, as though searching for something, yet the crow is the figure in the foreground, afixing his steely blue gaze on us. I also love the perspective you've used here, looking upward. The forest atmosphere is magical as is the lighting enchanted. Very supernatural, foreboding yet benevolent feeling about this whole image. If I were the author, I would be very very pleased. Hey, the boy could be 12, he's crouching ... he could be a late bloomer... you never know! His skin tones and hair are perfect, BTW.
