Description

This one is special. This morning I watched a story on Grant Wood's American Gothic painting (you know, the stern rural couple with a pitchfork). They visited the house that is in the background and showed about six seconds of the attic room that looks out the window in the painting. That just struck me as incredibly neat. I recreated the room as close as I could, added the chair and an old image as the background. The curtain took a very long time to get right, as far as transparency. Drew the pattern from the painting in Photoshop. No postwork. Tony Lynch wood floor mat. Kudos to CBS's "Sunday Morning" that ran the story. It's the only intelligent morning talk/news show on. Too bad it's only one day a week. They always do a story on art or artists.

Neat. I think the guy in the painting was Wood's dentist. The woman was Wood's sister.

Wonderful work with the curtain transparentcy, I can only imagine visiting such an iconic place. Thanks for sharing! (I visualize tiny pins holding the curtain up....(=~

Awesome image in and of itself, but with the background behind it this is even more fascinating. Great work!

Beautiful work. Liveing in the mid-west after being bourn and raised in NYC I see a lot of this stuff. I would love to do recreations like this one day simple historic and pure in nature.

"Velly intellestink" (Bad German Accent), wish I'd caught the braodcast, but with your attention to detail I feel like I was there. Very excellent mats and reflective lighting. brUNO
