Description

The architectural splendour of the temples built by the dynasty of Chandela kings (9th - 12th century) in central India, is world renowned. Of the 85 temples built over 200 years, only 20 survive in good condition. The temples are richly embellished with sculptures. Top: The Adinath temple The 11th century Jain temple with marvellous lattice work windows on the sides of the shikara (Apex structure). Bottom: Sculptured panels of the walls of one of the temples. All the temples of Khajuraho are profusely decorated with sculptures of deities from the Hindu pantheon, of celestial nymphs, animal sculptures and mithun (erotic) figures. Thanks for viewing.

Well, they all look like they are having a good time except for the ones that are being devoured. This is a wonderful way to see India. The architecture is fantastic as are these photos.

Definitely the most interesting and intelligent religion in this world! (if we exclude the fact that they never did anything to break the casts system...) Interesting and splendid shots, dear!

It always amazes me how people hundreds of years ago could possibly make such beautiful art with such crude instruments. You don't see workmanship like that today..great capture..

Excellent, both detail and full shot. As a grad student I had a work-study job as a gallery guard, almost always got the Indian/sub-continent collection - loved it then and still do.
