Description

Incoming Worm Hole!!! The Worm hole in this render is a modeled and texture displaced geometry. And it is a modified version of the flat event horizon, so it can morph from the flat ripply event horizon to the Shwoosh shape. Add a couple of HV's, and animate the texture displacement and WA LA.

"You know, big ring..flushes sideways.." -Jack O'Neal..;) This is as close as I've seen..maybe a little more of a metallic texture to the effect, but top-notch modeling all around.

u may want to reposition the ramp seeing as the vortex disintergrates anything in its path ;)

Ya, You noticed the ramp is in the way, he he he. My Bad, I modeled the swoosh independent from the gate mesh so when I apply the displacement textures it kind of buldges more around the base. Easy enough to fix all that has to be done is to rotate the Swoosh mesh a bit around the Z axis so the bulge does not contact the ramp. Perhaps the reflectivity is set a bit too high on the mesh, hence the slight metallic look. The blue at the base going to white is easy by applying a gradient to the color channel starting at a blue and going to white according to the "Distance to object" parameter. Along the Z axis. Blue light is not quite right. As in the show, the event horizon may be a bit luminous, but it does not emit any light. It does not light up objects around it.

I had created an original version of the StarGate in Vue a few months back (posted here at the R)....but NOTHING like THIS! Great balls of Worm Hole vapor! You got me blown away! If this is just a WIP, then we are all in for a grand show for sure! If this is your finished piece, then we STILL have had a grand show! BRAVO!!!

Excellent imaging. Can't wait to see the "WHOOSH" when it goes back into the gate effect

ok, call me a nitpick, but wouldn't a particle effect work better for this? I think that would get the effect closer to what you see in the series.

Looks great. One small nitpick, think the chevrons should light up. In the show they move forward and light up.
