Okay - BATS IN WINTER??? Yes, this particular very large Transylvanian species doesn't prey on insects etc. which are dead or dormant during winter. Their victims are warm-blooded (!) and do maintain their acivities all year, though in winter they tend to be a little more indoors... The bats have other peculiarities, but that's perhaps a different (though often told) story :)
Tech trivia: A complicated scene of 9.8 bio polys, two ecosystems. Conifers made with Onyxtree, textured in Vue, very hi-rez trees, 40 mb. VOB filesize. Two crashes in the proces, both because I pushed the limits of Vue and my system (the file was at one point up to 34 bio polys - completely outrageous!).
Credits: The Castle is "George's Fairytale Castle" by "zippy". The bats are added as postwork in Photoshop - couldn't find any models to use, and modelling them by myself, well... anyway, PS Bat brushes by "Microbion".
Rendered in "Broadcast" with Global Ambience, 1 hr. render. (And I HATE the "bleaching" effect of the Vue fog on distant objects, as much as I love everything else about Vue!)

Whoa! Spooky! I like it a lot. The thing that caught my eye immediately is the way the light glints off the bats' wings in the foreground. Very cool detail. :-)
