Description

The P-47 was, in a very indirect sense, a gift from Soviet Union to the United States of America. The aircraft was the product of two Georgian immigrants, Alexander de Seversky and Alexander Kartveli, who had left their homeland to escape the Bolsheviks. In the entire history of military aviation, there has never been an airplane that could match the P-47 for ruggedness and dependability. The pilots who flew it into combat called it "The Unbreakable" and "The plane that can do anything." They were not far from wrong. P-47's often came back from combat shot full of holes, their wings and control surfaces in tatters. Hope you like it! I have recently written an aircraft modeling & texturing tutorial and it's available on my site with some related downloads: www.colacola.se

The thunderbolt was the best plane of the war. The only reason it is not talked about more is that it is not as attractive as some of the others. Pilots who flew both the thunderbolt and the Mustang perferred the Thunderbolt.

Not as good looking as the Mustang or Lightning the Jug was an excellent blending of power and armor. One cartoon I saw was a P-47 being shot at by an ME-109 with bullets bouncing off. The pilot said "I'll run him out of ammo and fuel and THEN I got him." :)

Outstanding ! It's the original "Tankbuster",...........the current A-10 "Thunderbolt" or as it's more popularly known "Warthog" owes much in it's tactical concept to the P-47.
