Description

People often talk about the Nordic gloom or melancholy. I don't know how much truth lies in that, but the light, or rather the loss of light, may have something to do with it. Now, in the darkest time of the year, there are just a few hours of light. So it feels anyway. The sun's path in the sky is low, if it shows at all. So...time to light candles. Thanks for viewing and comments!

Is this what daylight looks like in this season? I guess it is melancholy but inmensely beautiful. You have a wonderful image here.

We call it S.A.D. here, for Seasonal Affected Disorder. My wife says "Send me a dozen black roses, and wake me in the Spring!" I know it is worse the farther North you go! I love this image, and it reminds us that there is beauty in desolation too! I absolutely love the snowy grass in the foreground!! It looks like there is snow blowing across the tundra!! Wonderful! Have you ever heard of "Full spectrum light bulbs?" They say that can help...

I am happy to say that this Seasonal Affected Disorder doesn't get it's grip on me. I thank RR and my creativity for that! But i have friends that get light therapy during the dark season.

Gorgeous, but strange land where there is so much darkness. I can't imagine what it would be like to live there. Thank you.

I've always been a night person, so sounds like the place for me, except for the cold. Ha! There's always something. I really love this Gun. The low light, the colors are so soothing to me. Excellent work! V

I'm afraid the lack of light would get to me Gun, and only one reason being I am night-blind. You make it look beautiful and mystical here tho, love the tones!

So moody and dream-like. I love the colors, soft light and flow. Personally, I like fog and mist (except to drive in)..but the dark time of year would be difficult, I think. Wonderful painting, Gun.

I love what you've done to this Gun, it's so replete with atmosphere. Almost hallucinogenic in the way the textures flow. It does well to suggest that twilight of the Arctic Circle :-)

Very peaceful Gun, I think I would find it a peaceful, not gloomy, way of life. I become depressed from too much sunlight and have often thought of moving to Seattle where people are moving away becouse of too much rain. This piece has a very nice atmosphere.

I like the mood in this picture ... there is also hope in it ... the bird heading towards the light :) ... Maybe because I am Danish and know that mood so well :) To me that time always have also been cuddle up time .. which is very cozy too .. and true like you said .. lots of candles :))) Wonderful picture !

I do not kow how you do it my dear Gun. Your work is very good and always consistant in feeling and style. You speak of melancholy and then of candles, but candles are so very romantic. Even here on the Pacific Coast, it has been raining and the wind has been blowing. In some ways it is the nicest time of the year. With the fireplace going, a cup of tea and a good book. Thank you for sharing my friend and happy holidays. Egmont
