Description

This is one of the last spiders I photographed this year, before the frost and snow arrived. It is a spider of the Lycosidae family, of the genus Alopecosa, most likely the species Pulverulenta (impossible to determine without a much closer look, but it's the most common species of the Alopecosa genus around here). It measures about 6-7 mm, and I found it running along before me while I was out looking for dragonflies. They are quick little creatures, so it took a fair amount of hunting while crawling around on my knees to get this shot. The strange looking plants it is running across are nothing but moss - a kind that grows in very wet environments (and which have a very interesting look up close I think...).

It's a superb macro! I don't love the spider when they have a great size, but this one is very good... Great evening.

Hmmm I think we have those here too .... I don't like to get too close to spiders though to be certain, lol. Excellent macro! Would never have guessed that was moss.
