Description

A detail of a sculptural canvas called The Lay of the Land which I uploaded the other day. The lighting is coming from a different angle in this shot - plenty of ambient light from underneath. You'll be seeing this at life size or slightly bigger. The gum nuts can be seen clearly on the left. Thank you for viewing and your feedback is always appreciated :-)

This detail is gorgeous, and interesting to explore! I love this qork of your and I'm so happy to post these "real size" details. This is also veru inspirational; I'd really love to do something like this some day too. Those seeds are so beautiful; this part works really well as awhole picture too. The direction of the light plays fascinating role in these pictures. Wonderful! :-)

Thanks Titta :-) Yes, I love the part that direction of light plays in these works. I photographed them from four different angles (via rotating the canvas and re-rotating the image back) and chose the one which worked best. I thought about posting the same thing from multiple angles but don't want to saturate my gallery with a sameness! I do have an account at photobucket.com though so I could always include extra links in my text :-)

I really like the way these works can change with the angle of light & the point of view, it adds a whole other dimension to them, that ambient light works well in this one again! The details work well as both landscapes & abstracts in their own right too & seeing the textures close up makes me appreciate them even more, keep them coming Jim ; )

I really like this series, the lack of colour and use of strong directional light gives it a really original feel. Bravo!!

Amazing how each part has its own identity as you focus there and change the lighting. I'm curious Jim, have you ever add painted over one of these, in part or in whole. I like them as they are, but I couldn't help pulling out the paint brush just to experiment, maybe watercolor. LOL! I have the same desire to do that to some of my husbands woodcarving images. I'm such a color addict! V
