Description

Back home we are treated on an interesting sunset. The clouds and little precipitation here and there are lit by the sun, warming this landscape with its warm rays. The slide captures the contrasts well but my slide-scanner can't handle those contrasts. Today it's December 21, the December solstice, that means that days on the northern hemisphere won't become any shorter from this point. Funny detail is, that the sun is close to earth and will reach it's closest distance somewhere in the first week of January (perihelium of the sum), causing summers to be slightly warmer on the southern hemisphere compared with the summers on the northern hemisphere. Minolta X-700 (Fuji Sensia 100, 70 mm and cropped) Thanks for your attention and your always valuable comments

"...really excellent timing!" PeeWee05 has it right. But so do you, Jan-Carel, with your prepared eye ready to snap the scene when opportunity presents itself. Congratulations. -- Dick

Fantastic and touching shots Jan-Carel ! It's so beautiful to see the rays of the sun, especialy in this way, when the sky is dark and cloudy. There's really something magic and particular, as if God touch us in this way... Thank you for this splendid duo ! Have a nice day my friend. Hugs. V

Trying to understand how vision in the Southern hemisphere is different at the points separated by six months is a real test of philosophy. The each sign of the zodiac is certainly backwards left right looking at the equatorial horizon. Shadows, precipitation?...what are the blind spots where mere comic could replace sculpture since no one has ever seen that point of view on an object? For now what is before us is enough. Tomorrow, we will worry about the unborn.
