Description

Christmas Eve - time to reflect a little. Looking back on 2005 I see a varied history. Dark moments were a short depression back in February, the discharge of my former manager (a most inspirating friend) and another coworker sent to another university. In my church two good friends moved to other churches due to the worsened climate. A personal conflict caused me to take distance from my biblestudy group in which I have taken part about 15 years. Losing the direct contact of these four friends had a profound impact on me (all four they have been misjudged by Christians), keeping me over a long time in a mournful state. RR has been a safe place to feel myself free, to learn to know people (better). I could not only share my thoughts but learn how many of you experienced great and less great moments in your life. I feel priviliged to have been part of the community here, to have been part of many of you. In contrast with the hard experiences I have had many - innumerable - encouraging experiences that have restored the balance.
  • So, concluding these reflections I want to dedicate this one to the list of valuable people who have meant so much to me:
  • Gert (my former manager)
  • Wouter (the coworker with whom I shared my office)
  • Maarten (special friend)
  • Wim (my friend who joined my vacation)
  • Rachel (a.k.a. WiserAngel)
  • Sheila (a.k.a. tvernuccio)
Before you might start to think I have had it with Christians, I want to pass this thought. People can (and will) be disappointing, whatever belief they may have. Jesus Christ taught us just this simple guideline, love God above all and love your neighbour as yourself. I can't say it's Jesus' fault when his followers don't act correctly on that. When muslims are flying planes into the Twin Towers they show they understood as much of their religious heritage as medieval crusaders did, as well as any megalomaniac ideologist did. Therefore I keep 'looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.' (Hebrews 12:2) Christmas is for me the feast of light and with this posting I want to share the Light of the world to you all!

Looking this photography, this incredible light, I think that there is something "magic" bigger than us, and bigger that everything... Reading what you have write, always sincere words, I think that you are very strong because you believe in God. I'm not shure about what I believe or not... maybe because I'm always angry, because the only person I really Love in my life is died, and I am always alive... But one thing is certain, in the middle of the forest, or in the mountains, I've found something, a serenity, something that make me feel better, maybe God, I don't know... Thank you to have always been here during this long and hard year Jan-Carel, and to have show me, and show us, so many beautiful landscapes and marvels of Mother Nature. You're right, Renderosity is a great community, and I'm proud to be part of it too. I wish you a Happy Christmas my friend, and my thoughts are with you. A very big Hug. Nathalie

no matter "what faith" "or no faith" people are just people and has short comings and bright sides to their demeaner. I personally have enjoyed your postings of a part of the world I will never see in person. not only see but enjoyed the quality of your work. Religious zealots has killed more people than any so called conflict of countries. unfortunetly it is the way things are. when one looses a friend, you must look forward to making new friends. nothing is for ever

Okay, you got me with your words as well as your great shot. I have a poem I would like to share with you. Something I wrote in 1987.... Faith in Him. Your life may be filled, with veils and shrouds, But, the Sun always shines, above the clouds. Beyond the darkness, of the day, Seek out the happiness, and play. Always look about you, in glee, God has made beauty, in a tree. God didn't make man, to be sad and grim, Just have faith, and believe in Him. Hope you get plenty of rest during the holidays. Aloha

i see the dark storm as well as the strong light coming in to overpower the darkness! the light almost looks like fire how powerful it is! no matter how dark and cold life can be sometimes, it always warms and becomes bright and full of light. i guess it's the ebb and flow of life. people...well i agree with you...it's our nature to be disappointing, regardless of our religious beliefs, gender, age, etc. You mentioned Sept. 11. I don't understand that or ANY act of violence...including war sanctioned by our Christian president. I just don't get it. I don't understand taking a weapon and using it to kill someone. WHY???? That's so senseless. Can we not try to work out our conflicts and problems WITHOUT violence???? I know there are so many who will think i'm naive or whatever. i know many will disagree with me. But i just simply don't understand violence. It's supposed to be about loving and respecting each other IMO. Funny thing, i sat in church not too many months ago and listened to a minister condoning the act of war...condoning killing innocent people. why? Isn't one of the ten commandments Thou Shalt Not Kill????? Anyway, religion seems pretty ambiguous to me. Loving and respecting other people...well...when you look at it in that light, then sprirituality seems to make a bit more sense...at least to me. Anyway, thanks for such a powerful image/dedication to your friends, and thanks for counting me as one. May your days be brighter and brighter and filled with great joy & peace! Have a very merry Christmas with your friends and family, Jan-Carel!!! :)

Life is not about having or getting, it's about being and becoming. The simplicity of life is sooooo hard for some people to see, I guess they look right past the simple truths... excellent thought provoking words and image Jan-Carel!!! Peace & Love to you on this wonderful holiday season!!!!

Unbelievers and false believers have no underlying truth to buoy them up when they falter in ignorance. Sectarians and Denominations see doubt where the Good News brings change and locale. Hey! there are more rabbits and elves here than crosses and infants but I like the humor and the genuine strength of the artists who enumerate the blanks no one on earth can fill in by mere will.
