Description

It took my some time to figure out the significance of that title. I think it's appropriate here. This is a slight detour from our current tour. We were coming here anyhow, because there is a tenous connection between this memorial and the 'ethnic' neighborhood we are touring. Given the events in W. Va., I have to leapfrog to this memorial. It's in Roslyn, Washington. Many of you have probably seen this town on TV and thought it was Alaska. It's where "Northern Exposure" was filmed. Roslyn is a small coal-mining community off I-90 between Spokane and Seattle... much closer to Seattle. The point of this memorial, we got there just as the tarp was pulled off the statue but before the formal dedication, is that the children of the coal miners wanted to memorialize the men who worked and died in the mines. The plinth the statue is on describes 40+ lives lost in one accident. Not the safest job in the world, but someone has to do it. Bless our miners. Enjoy; thanks for viewing.

My bad: Bless the families of those who work the mines as well. How could I have forgotten it's the whole family that is involved....
