Description

Designed by Wren and completed in 1677, The Monument commemorates the Great Fire of London of 1666. The column stands 202ft (62m) high, and is the tallest free standing stone column in the world. It is now accepted that the fire was accidentally started in Pudding Lane, by the king

I wonder if they had a movie rating system back then ..with all the bare breasted women it would have been rated R...lol... You did a fantastic job capturing the details of this monument...It really is a great piece of art..

Interesting history for this monolithic monument. B&W is the perfect choice to present it in. What a great range of tones. Too bad about the blown highlights, but that doesn't bother me much.

Neal Stephenson's quicksilver trilogy deals with the fire at one point, and a great deal of london's politics from that era. It was an incredible time, great minds and great upheavals, amazing intrigue and constant pressure from the french and the dutch. What an amazing history london boasts. And now, i understand, they've added an enormous swiss dildo to the architectural mix.

Amazing what we learn at Rendo - I used to walk past this every working day but suppose familiarity breeds contempt.
