Description

This is the second in a series we're doing for a reconstruction of Valle Crucis Abbey near Llangollen in North Wales. This time a hundred years later than the first when the abbey was at its height. (These will be part of a big presentation that will include a 4 minute animation showing the abbey regressing from its 21st Century ruin back through time to its 13th Century beginnings). Once again, most of the work here is done by my partner in time, Phurst with some Photoshop work done by myself. Hope you enjoy, Mak & Pete

Absolutely stunning! The attention to the small details and the lighting make this very convincing.

Hello. I would try and lighten up the shadows which are cast on the ground. turner

Wonderful modelling... and a very interesting scene. It would be nice to see the animation.

The building is awesome! Well-textured and modeled... The static poser people detract from the scene, in my opinion, especially since it's C4D. Also, the lighting is a bit off : the under-areas of the building should be better-lit with lower contrast? Are you using GI? Still, it's an EXCELLENT piece of work! Keep at it...

Thansk for the comments. In response to some: No we didn't use GI, or Radiosity in this case as we're still using 8.5, wut we will try one. I understand what you mean, InfernalDarkness, about the shadows but it's something we would respond to with extra lighting because of time/money constraints. Between these and rendering very long animations we have a lot to render. We use the Poser figures because there are very few out there in the Digital Archaeology field adding characters to their scenes. Our prefered method is composoting real reenactors into a scene whenever possible. (If you go to this -http://www.arc.ac/Tourviewer_BerthVT1.html - you can see an example of this in a work in progress QTVR tour we've done. (We don't tend to post those images here as they are mixed media and not purely C4D, as well as being QTVR's). Moe: We will put the link to the teaser animation with the next 15th Century posting. I'm not exactly happy with it as it was rushed, but it will be there. Thanks again,Mak.

Looks great guys!! - I agree on the shadows - way too dark given the ambience elsewhere. Poser figures look fine to me. Does Pete make many of these costumes himself, or can you source them all online?

Thanks Adam. I do understand about the shadows and agree. It is interesting. Sometimes, rightly or wrongly, I like things to look as they would if a photograph had been taken rather than how they'd appear to the eye, if that makes sense. Menaing more contrast. As for the costumes, yes, Pete makes all our costumes. He used to do it, and still can, for real and I think it's his favourite part. Thanks again, Mak.

I like it. There is a lot of detail; the render time for the animations must be long.

Hi rammstein69. We cut down on detail for the animations and, at present, have taken the characters out. It averages out to around 3 minutes per frame but once we get our new Macs that should be cut down significantly!
