The figure on the ship is eleven feet tall. He needs a tall ship to be on! Great shot, otherwise!

This is a great image. Oh so real looking. Love the guy in the water and his lurking friends. Only thing that I could see that would make it totaly convincing would be an anchor on the bottom and the anchor chain going down to it. It would also help with showing the sensation of the waters depth plus then the ship would not accidently float away leaving the poor guy to the sharks so to speak. "E" V

I agree with REG, anchors fore and aft would be realistic, to show that the ship could not swing with the tides and be damaged or swamped. My crit is that, unless the ship was in a storm or something and the crewmember in the water was checking under the waterline for damage prior to the ship being careened to fix the possible damage, realistically you would not find the captain of the ship sailing this close to shore, for fear of smashing her against the rocks. No captain ever wanted to be on a lee shore if he could help it. Oh, and there would be far more surf occuring in this enclosed coastline, with the ship being tossed around, hence the need for two anchors, from the bow and stern, if the captain were fool enough to be caught this close in to shore...and where are the ship's sails, presumably they would be showing, either furled up or hanging loose, slack from no wind. Also, if a man were ordered over the side, with sharks in the water, the captain, if he were smart enough, would order other crewmembers to man the sides with firearms to try to keep the sharks away... Okay, all that said, the light and water and rocks and ship are well rendered, but if you the artist were trying to render an accurate/realistic scene, you need to do more research and know/study your subject much better. This scene is good, but needs more work/research to make it more believable. As I have mentioned in crits to others rendering this genre, research, research, research.....know your subject before you try to recreate it.......your on the right track, keep it up....

FitArtistSF gave you some excellent constructive comments, but he seems to have failed to see the sails are there. However, these should be bulkier and hang down lower and not be like a cylinder. The water, though, is absolutely wonderful.

Gets my vote! Wonderful water! Although i too feel that most digital artists do not do enough research or put in enough effort to make their images truely believable, you do say that your purpose was to learn about/experiment with water transparency. I'd certainly suggest you go ahead and add those realism improvements - since this image has outstanding potential as a finished product. Maybe you should move the ship farther away from the rocks, with the water still shallow, as if inside an atoll or such. Excellent work!

Well I think it's superb! I can see the details the others are talking about and I'm sure FitArtistSF knows all about the subject, but I also know thw worth of a good test and I personally fancy it to be a "miniature" ship manned by a couple of risk-taking treasure hunters in a very calm inlet. The water is fantastic. :-) If you've a mind to take it to the next level, pay good mind to the suggestions above and you'll have a top-notch final art on your hands(but I like it quite well just as it is).

This is great! The water is outstanding. The picture is so very bright it might help if there were more bump on the deck and some specularity on the rocks to go with the overall brightness. Just a thought.

So many great comments about the water.... I can only agree with them. But where are all the comments about the ocean floor? I have never seen such a realistic rocky shore in Vue. How did you do it?
