Description

Aloha and good evening/morning where ever you are! This shot is the last in this series on Kalapana. After a hike out to this spot in the dark over a lava field...I am happy to have made it before the sun came up. I have the cam set up and am sitting on the beach waiting for the sun. I can hear the ocean pounding and am excited that the waves are up. What I can't see yet is the dark clouds that will be in the way of the sun for the next 3 hours....Finally the sun rises enough for me to start shooting....I can see by the start of it, it's going to be glorious. I shot this in between sets. Waves roll in sets of 3-4 per set depending on the swell. It's very unpredictable, sometimes in bigger surf you might see 6-8 waves per set. The stead fast rule is never turn your back to the ocean~ The waves here were rolling all the way up the shore so I ventured on the sand as far as possible between sets and shot this. I wanted the sun shinning off the black sand, managed to get it without getting wet...whew! Probably not the most advisable thing to do without a water housing on your cam.. Thanks for coming along on my trip out to Kalapana, and your many encouraging comments on this series...it's been a blast showing you a little piece of my island. Now on to other things.....Have a great weekend ya'll.. Aloha!

Oh, what a beautiful piece of heaven you have given us. It would be so easy to loose ones self at a place like this. How ever did you finally make yourself leave? Ahh!! What a trip it's been, my friend. How ever can we thank you? I know...................V

Wow, that's exquisite. Hard to put into words what I'm thinking. More than anything I'm drawn to the sharp contrast between the bluish waves and the beautifully warm tones of everything else - a winning combination!

The morning on the 'black sand' makes the shore look as though it is made of gold. This is an exquisite shot. The mist right as the crest of the wave, the gentle foam. This works magic for me. Outstanding, and I MEAN it!

the sand reminds me almost of a melted chocolate or something as fluid.. maybe I just want to be there with hot chocolate? with whipped cream of course..

Gorgeous! The golden sunrise was well worth the effort - you captured the scene perfectly. The framing, the exposure, the "sets" of waves - all so beautiful! V
