Description

There was no time to hide!

Randoff; made a decision. He slid into the shadows and lay down flat on the ground with his hands underneath his chest, face flat against the earth, melting him into the darkness. This tactic had saved him hundreds of times: wearing dark clothing and hiding all exposed skin and metal, he became virtually undetectable. Once the enemy passed, he would run off into another direction in hopes of leading them away from the girl.

As Randoff; lay hidden, he heard footsteps approach and then move quickly past where he lay in the gloom.

"My sword!" he thought. "I completely forgot about my short sword."

The sword still lay mere inches from his feet where he had set it on ground earlier. "Fool!" he chastised himself, "my second mistake."

He remained completely still, hoping the weapon would go undetected.

Suddenly, a heavy foot slammed into the middle of his back, knocking the breath from him, and his head was roughly jerked back.

"YOU MISERABLE MORTAL!!!" bellowed the Dragon Lord as he tightened his grip on Randoffs hair. "You DARE to defy me! You will pay dearly for this!"

Randoff was yanked to his feet by his hair. He thought to struggle, but knew it would only result in his instant death. Instead, he remained still with his head held high and no trace of fear on his face.

"Where is the girl?" the Dragon Lord growled through clenched teeth. "Tell me now or I swear you will regret it!

Randoff remained calm, "In the woods, running like a rabbit chased by hounds I would imagine."

The Dragon Lord twisted Randoffs hair tighter, "So, a court Jester!" he sneered. "Well, foolish jester, I think you will find little humor in what I have planned for you."

With that the Dragon Lord shoved Randoff to the ground next to Thurgon and Brummon. "Search him, then chain him to the tree," he ordered, "And make sure to shackle this one tight!"

Branches tore at Alaina's face and body as she ran blindly through the woods. She had no idea where she was or which direction to go. All she wanted was to get away from where she just came.

She had no idea how far she had ran when suddenly a dark shape loomed before her. Her eyes widened with fear as the figure moved toward her.

Oh man, I LOVE the angle. Really cinematic, it's just PERFECT. Your faces are great too, eyes are nicely focused (you'd be amazed how many peple forget that). I can even see some "pull" on his hair. Killer cliffhanger! (ooo.. maybe not the best choice of words) Bravo!
