Description

This is a Napier Heston type 5 special, built specifically to take the world absolute speed record. Design was started in 1938 and the first flight was in June 1940, which unfortunatly resulted in a crash and the abandonment of the project. There is not a lot of info out there on this aircraft, but I think this is fairly close. Thanks for looking!

Superb modelling and detail, very accurate. They want to build a real one at http://project-napier-heston.com/, if you haven't seen the site yet.

Thanks Gregor and Steerpike. That site is the one where I got most of my info from! Well worth a look, and I hope they succeed.

what a beautiful plane, i don't think i ever heard of it before now. wonderful models like this really bring little-known machines to life in a way which the old drawings and photos do not.

That plane really does have some clean lines. I like it even more every time I look at it. The engine cowling looks especially good!

It takes a real expert to make something which seems unquestionable but fails. Schwartz-Christofal and Kutta-Joukowski just don't seem adaquate to create the complex layer at a time like this. You could try to find an inverse and decide which planet it looks most like as a sphere brought back? Trying to explain how the phase shift on the propellor passages interacts to shorten the tail arm requirement alone is needless bother. Organic? perhaps...
