Description

"We are born at a given moment, in a given place and, like vintage years of wine, we have the qualities of the year and of the season of which we are born" -Carl G. Jung

Since you all seemed to like yesterday's radio, I thought I post another made 7 years later but still looking good despite it's 51 years on this planet. I can only hope that I look as good at that age. ;] I intentionally shot it high key -- fully aware that the top of the Lucite face disappears into the light. I had other shots of it where it is fully visible, but liked this one the best. Call it artistic liberty. I may post some other images of it in the Photography Forum if anyone is interested This Emerson tube radio is fully functional and even the Telechron clock keeps good time. Even back then, this clock had an alarm with a "snooze" feature. On of the neat thing about this radio is that the speaker is actually facing underneath and the raised Lucite base allows it to be heard -- spreading the sound evenly around the listening area (think subwoofer). The face is actually sealed plastic and not a speaker grill, thus the interesting design. Emerson was founded in 1923. To keep prices low during the depression, they began to produce "midget" radios and consistently geared their sales to lower income customers. Their marketing strategy worked and Emerson became one of the leaders in sales, well into the time that this radio was built. ----- * Emerson Lucite Clock Radio * - Emerson Radio & Television Corp. (with Telechron clock) - Model: 826B - Chassis: Plastic

Is it art, or is it kitsch? It's both! This has got to be one of the very first clock radios, right?

Wow, this one looks soooo advanced, if you would have asked the year of design only very few of us would have guessed it correctly! Impressive work, Kort, artistic liberty works fine for me, better than only 'recording all details'!
