Description

Hi Unfortunately I have not got time to explain much. Basically these images were produced by rendering depth maps inside of Mojoworld. They show background and foreground DOF/Blur. Depth maps are grayscale images where the grey level at any given point represents the distance of the object from the camera at the same point in the original image. This ensures physically correct Depth-Of-Field This was done by the means of a Function-graph driven material applied to all the objects in the scene in conjunction with the following considerations : 1. Sunlight intensity must be 0 2. Ambient light level must be 1 3. Original planet atmosphere must be swapped for 'Uniform Fog' - VERY IMPORTANT. The effect was applied in post using Photoshop CS2's Lens Blur filter and the depth information available in an alpha channel. This method has it's drawbacks insofar as the depth maps produced are not perfect. Also imported meshes don't turn out well. Thanks to Brian Sharpe of Pandromeda for the inital idea, etc. Also, thanks to Woz for the kind usage of his 'Polluted Shores' world. TFV Angela

Interesting results...especially where the greyscale is affected. Is the FG readily available to see how its constructed? Hope you enjoyed the tour of Polluted Shores :-)

Hmmm I'm not so sure I like this, all that lovely detail just tossed away.

Woz & Pushinfaders: I will post the FG in a couple of days - busy at the moment. rbutt: Liking something is subjective ; I don't like a lot of your images/renders, which is why I choose not to comment on them....

fascinating experiment - if you decrease the density of the fog can it be used to give a more subtle DOF?

Oh, now I see the roots of the anger. Angela, great work as always... tried to get this in as a standard feature in 3.0, but no go. So many uses for dumping the z-buffer out as greyscale... compositing, DOF, um.. compositing. :)
