We bought our first home in Paxton (in the Hunter region of NSW) and only weeks after moving into this sleepy little town, we were informed of the planned development for the area. 3,700 houses, a resort and a golf course, yet, no thought for the environmental impact to an Aboriginal sacred site, the Ellalong Lagoon and so little infrastructure to support such a population boom. Coal mining, the area's major industry, is another major issue to the conservation of 'green corridors' and ultimately everyone through the Greenhouse effect.
This Google Earth view shows Paxton and the surrounding area, the Ellalong Lagoon clearly visible.
Yes, development is necessary to accomodate our ever growing population, yet, what price do you put on the degradation of important spiritual and anthropological sites and the extinction of any species?

Thank you as always for viewing and your feedback is most appreciated :)

Wonderful composition and technique! With the added bonus of a feeling of culture as a museum exhibit ... a lost way of life preserved only in traces! Excellent image I'd say!

hey cassie... :) that's a surprise... a wonderful surprise... no question... concerning the "issue" you mention... well - that's not a nice thingy... :( there are far too less people who can really oversee the impact of their plannings... it would be necessary to do much more the "complete-overview-approach" in those projects... well - let's hope things will change in that direction! - concerning the pic: wow - it's amazing...! i really like what you did here...! definitely a very interesting one... like the colours...! this "shift" in colour from top to bottom... it would even be a sample for the monthly theme "light"... love your watercolour work...! thanks for posting and hugesthugs :)

I agree, I love the change from light to darker hues, as I was scrolling down I was wondering if I wsa descending into 'hell' and what would await me at the bottom. Reading the description for your inspiration, and I can't help but agree with your thoughts and also with the impression that we too are descending into 'hell' with all the demands modern society is putting on the environment. Life is more important than money, for though both come and go, only money is expendable. hugs hard I am so glad you did this, Cassie. This is one voice that is desperate to be heard, and we'd best heed its cry or suffer the consequences.

just add quotation marks around the word and concept of civillization. because I forgot to.

It's been fascinating watching this masterpiece unfold with painstaking deliberation each day. I wish the photo did your colour scheme justice but it seems little better than scanning in that respect. Your subtle yet vibrant combinations of colour seem bastardized - yet, happily, plenty of that crrunchyfrog complexity remains intact for our viewing pleasure ;-) I can only agree about what certain people have in mind for the beautiful area we live in, to my mind it's nothing less than a sacrilege of the highest order, even more so for this being sacred land. You've hit on a thought-provoking representation here, and you've hit that happy medium between uncluttered composition and a wealth of texture. I love it of course - and may some soul with good taste snap it up when it hits Wollombi's walls hugest hugs :-)

An utterly captivating composition Cass, both thought provoking & deeply moving conveying so much in a most striking way yet painted with great subtlety too, beautiful colours & your use of space & light is stunning! Great work hugs.

As I waited for the image to open on my sloooooow dial-up connection, I read your words. The city that I live in has been re-defining the term 'urban sprawl' over the last two decades. On many levels I can relate to what you are saying. The image is nothing short of wonderful Cassie. It really was a breath of fresh air to open my email and see that you had posted something new. Thank you for sharing this phenomenal work of art.

The nearest thing I've seen to this are works by Czech woman surrealist Toyen. Utterly mysterious still-life, this. Good luck with the exhibition! I hope that Jim is planning to take part. As for the environment, well if you Aussies are not managing to take care of it, what hope is there for the rest of us? Tokyo has almost no green space whatsoever, apart from Miew's veranda garden :-) hugs

Yah, this is great stuff. Interesting canvas, and it looks great hung. It will do wonders hung in the right spot. I love how the pricetags are left blank for the reader to fill in - just how much is this worth to you? Very thought provolking indeed. no_{8()s.

Absolutely wonderful still life! Even if i'm sure we lost something on the way between the original piece on the canvas and the pic on screen...
