Ultrafractal 4.02 -- Photoshop 7 (kanji text) Finally something worth showing to someone other than my doggie-bud, Lars, happened on my monitor - lol. I played with this one thru like 23 versions over a week and a half b4 I finally settled for this one. Sheesh - talk about picky! lol Been a while since I got that wrapped up in one of these mega-layer thingies. This one started out "painted" on a wrinkled, brick red background but 2/3 of the way thru I changed to the colorful backdrop. I tried to duplicate the style of japanese art where things are painted sorta "2d" without much shading - the leaves - and are "stylized" like the "sun". But I ended up shading the "bamboo" anyway. Tough figuring out the ribs in the bamboo but then I remembered a "trick" (the colored, diamond "lights" along the side of the rollercoaster "track") I found on one I made last year called "Space Mountain": If you use Toby's "Simply Spirals" formula and the Mode Switch, there's a certain "location" where you can make the forms in the spiral go in a straight line. So I made a line of Orbit Traps "point" balls and then stretched/skewed them so that the balls were long, skinny ovals and Walla!...no, that's a town in Washington....Viola!...no, that's a tiny cello....Voila! lol. Anyhoo - hope y'all enjoy this one. Sorry I've been absent a lot the last month or two. Just got burnt out and exhausted but I think I've got my second wind, now. Thanks for stopping by! :-?) Rick ***(Fine art giclee' prints of most of my work are available in limited edition on archival paper or canvas - e-mail: drahcir3@hotmail.com and get busy filling that empty spot on the wall! Unique, "one-of-a-kind" (edition size = 1) prints are also available*** :-)

I see the fractal coastine, and further it's a landscape! But this doesn't matter, the result is great and excellent, complete in a Chinese and Japanese tradition. Lovely image! v

Oustanding, Rick! I love the stylized mountain and the way it disappears into the mists. The bamboo is most impressive, as is the entire composition. So glad to see you "back in the saddle" again, pal!!

I think despite your explanation I'm still completely lost as to how this has been created using UF. I think it's pretty amazing when you look at an image created using something familiar ie UF but cannot see or understand how it was created. But I do know this image took an enormous amount of time, effort, skill and an eye for a perfect composition. Superbly done and you deserve an applause, an enormous EXCELLENT! and V

This is a beautiful pic but as fractelaar says it's not really a fractal image; I would like to see what you can do using a pure paint program (eg PS) and not limiting yourself to 'fractal brushes only'. Of course a fractal brush can make a great leave or bush, but for the other elements, might as well use the best tool for that.

Hey Rick - another masterpiece, I definitely think the Renderosity fractal gallery with the "best rankings" option is going to have to be renamed "Rykk's gallery" if you carry on like this ;-)

Magnificent fractal art Rick! Truly a stunning accomplishment! Bravo! I'm a little envious of Lars, as I would love to sit at your side and watch you do your art! Hey, this reminds me, when I was a kid, I'd crawl into the dog house with my "doggie-bud" and share a dog bone or two! Maybe that's why I bark! LOL!

Good to see you back in the saddle. The colors in this one are pretty much perfect. You managed to find a good balance between flat and 3D. I like everything about it

That's a fractal? Amazing. I'd love to just be a fly on the wall and watch you create something like that. It would be both astounding and discouraging somehow. Thank you.

When my daughter came in to update me today, this particular image and comments sparked quite a conversation. So sickie here is grandstanding at one of Rick's gorgeously done works of art. He is one the few artists who has taken the time to truly stretch the limits of what UF is and is not expected to accomplish. OK, so maybe it's easier in another program but, can you tell it wasn't done in that program? Talk about the skill it takes to manipulate UF into achieving that result. Personally, I think it's a beautiful rendition of late edo-period japanese artwork. I really like the Bamboo. If you'd like some inspiration, check out something from Hiroshige. He did quite a bit of landscape stuff. Btw,I can believe you created this out of UF. Anyone else, nah, but then again they could use another program :).

Rykk, I had to come see what all the fuss was about! This is beautiful! Outstanding! To put my 2 cents worth in, I figure if you create it in a 'fractal program' it is a fractal, even if it doesn't 'look' like the conventional fractal image! It is obvious you put a lot of time, effort, creativity and probably sweat, too! Bravo, for your artistic talent and originality!

Absolutely outstanding! The ranking table isn't appropriate to say what mastership you reached. You surely deserve to be ranked amomng the TOP 10 of the fractal artists of this century. Super image, I like it very very much!
