Description
Drawn about a month (Jan. '81) after JL's death. I was in college, and my dorm roommate challenged me to create a tribute to his musical idol after seeing some of my previous work. The original is from a double photo with Yoko that appeared on the cover of People magazine. I think it had been taken by Annie Lebowitz. People thought this turned out so well, I had to do a second one, that he got to keep. I shot this one about 5 years ago with an old digital camera. There is a little Photoshop postwork, just to clean up the white background, since the drawing has seen a lot of traveling and rough storage and yellowed slightly over time. I know it's done traditionally, but what the hell...it's digital now. LOL

John Lennon holds one of my fears that an assasin would appear at my door and shoot me dead. Olaf Palm and Gianni Versace finally motivated me to confide my plan for countering the assasin to some gym rats. Your drawing is sensitive to the memory extinguished with him. JFK began my shock at such things. People who are citizens of my country actually contemplate killing other citizens?!! It is not something I share whatsoever and providing a common defense and equal protection is difficult, indeed.

This painting is a wonderfully fitting tribute. It contains all the elements we expect to see in Mr Lennon's face, from the outward appearances of a musician to the inner aspects contained within the eyes and surrounding lines and creases. Funnily enough, this portrait sets him in line with those more staid, classical composes. Great work.

Good original art work! I did one of John in Ink and another in Oil. (Many years ago) Great tribute!
