Every 5 or so days during November 2005 I got my trusty 8" teslescope and my ever faithful ToUcam out and took a series of pictures of Mars.
Each picture is taken with an 8" Newtonian, operating at F15, stacking the best 10% of 1800 exposures at 1/33sec exposure rate from my cheap webcam.
The pictures down the middle are mine, the pictures down the right are simulations from a planetarium software package to identify what the features in my photo's are.
A day on Mars is 24hrs and 37 minutes. So each day, at the same observing time, Mars appears to have revolved 15

I too watched Mars when it was at its closest approach. But not having anything close to a telescope, my Mars was just a dot. But it was still thrilling knowing I was looking at another planet. Wouldn't it be great if someday, we could easily take shots like the ones from your software sim? Thanks for sharing these.

Ha ha, watch out for extraterrestials believing the historical documents - they might come and ask you to assist them in a interstellar war! ;) Fantastic work, love to see all these details! I have a Mars globe here and love to spin it and enjoy all the special places on it! Gorgeous work! :)
