Description

In photography presentation is almost EVERYTHING thus people tend to take pictures of things that for all outward appearances must remain easily recognisable and that appreciation rewards. The other sort of photographer may take photos that are captured for their evocative value (which can be a highly subjective operation). Bearing in mind the powerful medium of digital colour reproduction and the millions of colour hues possible (and in infinite combinations)I feel humbled by the possibilities of choice. When we add to this the camera's capacity to record the instantaneous colour field before us in greater precision than human eye could recall (not to mention a file's capacity for hue alteration) there is much to place colour study far over and above that of the painter's simple colour wheel in terms of complexity. Having said this, it is an inherent expression of human artistic feeling to 'paint' or manipulate colour into a pleasing outcome(for whatever reason).. and I have no axe to grind with other artists concerning their choices. When my camera 'sees' more colour than I think I can, I enjoy this revelation and when texture and the marvel of light and weathering have their action on still life subjects.. the end result, although boring for some, always remains a source of great fascination for me. The above image is a simple pair of wooden posts with stencilled numbers (I think in connection with a water hydrant's depth or location). I like the yellows here.

A very nice abstract, this is just the sort of image I enjoy. Lovely colours and the stencilled numbers just add that extra element that is needed. Bravo!!
