Description

The local Rodeo hit town this weekend for 2 days so I decided to go and check it out as I have never been to one before. This Rodeo was open to all levels of experience from novice to professional riders. After watching these cowboys, or Paniolos as they are called here for 2 days I have a deep and renewed respect for these daring riders, and their profession. I saw many bad falls from the horse's, and 1 guy was carried from the coral after a horse fell on him during his ride. The rider in this image is in an event called calf mugging. The idea here is to rope a running calf, run over and flip it on it's side, then tie 3 of it's legs together, run back and get on your horse and wait 6 seconds to see if the calf can escape or standup. The fastest cowboy/cowgirl time is the winner. This event is a crowd favorite as the little calf puts up a good fight when it's trying to be wrestled to the ground. Many times the calf wins and trots away from the frustrated cowboys. I will be posting more from this rodeo and it's different events in the coming nights... Thanks for dropping in and having a peek, and the many comments on my last images....Aloha to everyone!

Yeee Haaaaa!!! Lets round us up some cattle shall we! Brilliant actionshot my man. Sounds like it was an interesting even. And smart thinking too....tip em when theyre young. Its not that easy when theyre big...trust me...ive tried it a few times...sigh. Not much else to do around her than either tip cows or ride them. I always prefered riding cows when i grew up cause they werent as fast as horses, nor were they as tall. So if you fell off them...it wouldnt be as far to the ground. Sometimes you had to deliberatly jump off them though when they headed into the bulls area to "flirt". Will ya look at this ramble? I should just be ashamed of myself...such a pity im not, lol. Have a great day Dave!!!! ALOHA! #:O)

Good Lord! That cowboy is hanging in the air right now. No connection to saddle or horse. Only thing that's got him are the reins and stirrups.

Man, that guy is about 2 feet off the saddle and he is still spinning that rope. Must be a lot of concentration to hold still. Hang in there cowboy, hang in there.

A fantastic shot. This rider is airborne--no contact with the horse or saddle (except his feet in the stirrups)! Cool action shot. I haven't been to a rodeo for years, but always enjoyed these events. Looking forward to more of your photos.
