Barrel Racing
Continuing on with my visit to the Rodeo, this event is called barrel racing. Three barrels are set out approximately 30-40 yards. apart from each other forming a triangle, with the top barrel being the farthest away. These look like 55 gal. barrels and they are set on the far side of the coral approximately 50 yards. from the starting line. The object here is to race to the first barrel, depending on which way your horse feels comfortable in turning right or left, then complete a full circle around each barrel then race back to the starting line.....fastest time back to the line is the winner. There are some time penalties for knocking a barrel down. This type of racing is strictly for the women, and let me tell ya they can ride those horses fast!!
